election will give

and support to shape an
independent Quebec.
However, by-election
results seem to indicate a
decreasing support of the
Parti, Quebecois, arid a
majority for Levesque in
the next election seems
improbable.
But. the problem will
still remain. Will the
people of Quebec be able
to maintain this unique
French , Canadian
culture? Even should -
Levesque not retain his
position as premier of
Quebec, change's in,
Canada's constitution
will most likely be made
in the next decade. These
changes will probably not
ciiiTreurrc'ern Quebec but
the status of all the
provinces in Canada.
The' question of
Canadian unity, which
has receiVed a lot of
attention in the _past
deCade, will reach a
major turning point in the
next. 'In light of the
prospective \economic
recessions, the outcome
will be important to
Canada -as a whole. To
best weather -the future
economy, it is irnperatiye
that all ,provinces co-
perate.,.
Although the status of
the provinces will change
in the future, hopefully
increased financial inter-
relationships will help to
augment Canadian
prosperity.
