WANT TO APPEAL
YOUR ASSESSMENT?
You still have time to appeal your 1985 assessment if you
feel your home or business property has been improperly
assessed.
Your assessment is important because the amount of
property tax you pay depends on it, in that the assessed
value of your property is multiplied by your municipal and
school mill rate to determine your 1986 property taxes.
Notices of Assessment have been mailed to property
owners and tenants whose assessments have changed
since last year. Open houses have been held in your area
to answer questions and amend assessment information
if necessary. Open house dates and locations were
announced in a previous advertisement.
The Assessment Roll has now been delivered to your
municipality for the purposes of calculating the amount of
taxes you must pay on your property in 1936. For informa-
tion on your assessment, the Assessment Roll is now
available for review at your Municipal Office during regu-
lar business hours. If you feel your property has been
improperly assessed, and you have not yet made your
appeal known, you still have until January 7, 1986 to
deliver or mail an appeal to the Assessment Review
Board. And remember, even if you did not receive a
Notice of Assessment, you still have the right to
appeal.
Appeal deadline—January 7, 1986
The Assessment Review Board is an impartial body
reporting to the Attorney General of Ontario, which pro-
vides you with an additional opportunity to have your
assessment reviewed if, in your opinion, it is not fair and
equitable with similar properties in your area. The Review
Board is more informal and relaxed than a regular court of
law. You may present your own case, retain a lawyer or
ask a relative or friend to speak as your agent.
To help you in filing your appeal, Notice of Appeal forms
are available from the Assessment Review Board, your
Regional Assessment Office or your Municipal Office. As
well, you can use the reverse side of a Notice of Assess-
ment or write a letter stating the property address and roll
number, together with your reasons for appealing.
Appeals should be forwarded to the Regional Registrar of
the Assessment Review Board listed below.

Celebrations come and go, but rare is the
observance today of 25 years by one
minister in one Pastoral Charge. Such an
observance was made on Sunday,
December 15, 1985, when the Congregation
of Knox Presbyterian Church, Goderich,
celebrated the Silver Jubilee of the
Reverend Lockie Royal as Minister.
The Sunday morning service included
the Sunday School Christmas Pageant. At
the conclusion of their fine performance,
the children retired to the Sunday School
area to enjoy the VCR -TV monitor which
Rev. and Mrs. Royal presented to the con-
gregation to commemorate their 25 years
at Knox Church. This gift was received by
the Session and dedicated "to the Glory of
God, and in memory of our parents" by
Mr. Royal.
At the conclusion of the Service, with the
Sunday School returned to the Sanctuary,
John Schaefer, Chairman of the Knox
150th Anniversary Committee, chaired the
presentation ceremonies to Mr. Royal. He -
Rev. G.L. Royal

particularly want a savior or not, that is the
heart and core of the Christmas message.
You receive a savior from God.
This year again it appears that nearly
everyone is celebrating Christmas. If you
are also celebrating, may I ask "Why are
you celebrating?" Is it because it is your
custom, or is it because you have received a
Savior?
Your gratitude for God's gift will depend
on your knowledge of yourself and on your
estimate of how much you need a Savior. If
you are aware of only a few minor sins in
your life, if you have only a small need for a
Savior, then you will rejoice only a little,
and you might even be a bit disappoined
with God's choice of a gift.
But if you have learned that you are lost
BY HARRY VRIEND,
PASTOR TRINITY CHRISTIAN
REFORMED CHURCH
The real Christmas message is somewhat
like a present in an oversize box. There are
too many wrappings and you have to go
through mounds of paper to find it. It strikes
me that it is the same with the real message
of Christmas. There are so many traditions,
so many activities, and you have to discard
a lot of extraneous material to find it.
It is quite safe to look for the real message
of Christmas in the message of the angels.
The heart of that message was: "To you is
born a Savior, who is Christ the Lord."
Clearly, God made Christmas a personal
event, as well as a community event. To
"you" is born a Savior, and whether you
without' riun, that you need a Savior more
than life itself, that you need Him to stand
before God in freedom and glory, then in-
deed your gratitude will know no limits.
There are some gifts that are such a trifle
that they need little acknowledgement. The
Christian Church has always asserted that
the opposite is true with the gift of the
Savior. This is God's greatest gift and
greatest sacrifice.
It requires more than an occasional visit
to a worship service. Only consistent wor-
ship on the Lord's day, and a life of obe-
dience in between Lord's days would appear
to be in line with proper acknowledgement.
Still, the gift is so generous, that you soon
discover that you cannot do enough to
acknowledge this gift of God.
The Kindergarten class of Robertson Memorial Public School sang
a song about the Christmas tree at their concert. Making the hand
motions of a tree are Kristen Hunter, Mark Yule, Angie Graham,
