The Alphabet is also happy to have Krista Ritchie back, and to hear about her trip to Alberta. Merry Christmas, everyone! The annual Christmas concert was held on Tuesday evening with a full attendance. Working in groups of four, the students shared the icing, chocolate syrup and candies which they used to complete colourful, attractive and unique houses - an excellent project to develop social skills as well as learning skills. Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to everyone. • 43. GOIDERICH SIGNALSTAR, MONDAY, DSR 211,19M—PAGE 11" ' V Twas the Night Before Christmas ( from Clement Moore's - by Mlcbael Cere) poem Twas the night before Christmas and all through the igloo Not a creature was stirring, not even a caribou. The mukluks were hung by the window with care, In hopes that St. Inuit soon would be there. Papooses were nestled all snug in their beds, While visions of whale blubber danced in their heads. Mother in her bear skin, and I in my cap Were all camped out for a cold, restless nap, When out on the ice there arose such a clatter, I jumped out of bed to see what was the matter. When what to my Eskimo eyes should appear But a little kayak and eight tiny reindeer, With a middle-aged driver so healthy and fit, I immediately recognized St. Inuit! More rapid than seagulls his reindeer they came, And he whistled and hollered and called them by name: 'On Dreary, On Drifty, on Slushy, on Crasher! On Ice Flow, on Ice Cube, on Snowstorm and Flasher! Over the snowdrift, to the top of the roof, Now move it! Now move it! Move that hind hoof !' So up to the top of the igloo they flew, With a sack full of toys and St. Inuit too. And then in a twinkling I heard on the roof, The jumping and bumping of each grimy hoof. As I drew in my head and was turning around, Down the chimney St. Inuit came with a bound. He was dressed all in icicles, from head to toe, And his clothes were all covered with ice, sleet and snow. A bundle of toys he had flung on his back, " And he looked like an Eskimo opening his pack. The stump of a pipe he held caught in his hair, And the smoke it encircled his head like a square. He had a brown face and a flat, firm belly, And he smiled like the sparkle on apple jelly. He was groovy and cool, a sensational guy; I laughed so hard I was sure I would cry. His smile was so ,warm that it melted the ice, And I soon realized he was actually nice. Some candied ice and a toy reindeer Soon gave me to know I had nothing to fear. He filled up the stockings with ice-skates and skis, Then turned to the window and left with a sneeze. He sprang to his kayak and grabbed up a paddle, (The leader reindeer carried an elf on his saddle) , And 1 heard him cry out as he flew through the sky, 'Next year, if you're good, I'll bring Eskimo pie!' Joan Shacketon's Grade 2 class sang a selection of Christmas songs when they took part in the Victoria Public School Christmas concert on December 19. The children had a couple of new variations on old favourites to spice up their presentation. ( photo by Sharon Dietz) The Grade 4, 5, and 6 classes at Victoria Public School presented a Russian song and dance number at the school Christmas concert December 19.
