The sorority will hold its annual gift wrap service at Suncoast Mall Thursday through Saturday. They've had fun lear- ning new songs for a playlet that tells what happens when Santa Claus tries to replace the reindeer. Grade 6 and Grade 3 have started a Buddy Reading Program. Nancy Cameron's Kindergarten is mak- ing paper chains to decorate their room. This has been "concert week" for Sheila Clarke's Grade 2 Alphabet. They've been busy practicing, "The Day the Transformers Came to Brookside", with Nancy Cameron's class. They also worked on secret "Christmas Construction" with . Ian Clarke's help! On Monday they received their first letters from their Hinton, Albert pen pals! Jane de Boer is the "special me" this week. Charles Liddle's Grade 6 class met their Grade 3 peer partners for the first time this week. ON A SCROOGE BUDGET? easier to obtain INV UALI I' s rwr If a pilot project in London proves successful, it may soon be easier for people in a number of other Ontario communities to obtain birth, marriage and death cer- tificates, Consumer minister Monte Kwinter said recently. For •a six month period which began December 1, London area residents have been able to obtain and complete certificate application forms at the London Land Registry Office at 80 Dundas St., W. Once completed, the forms will be sent by courier to the Registrar General's Office in Toronto and returned by mail. "We expect to have certificates in the mail to be returned to people in much less time than the three to four weeks it now takes to deal entirely through the mail with Registrar in Toronto," Mr. Kwinter said. The minister said reducing the time re- quired to acquire birth certificates would be particularly beneficial to people who re- quire passports for international travel and to senior citizens. • "The Registrar General receives many requests for birth certificates from people over the age of 60 who need the certificates to qualify for pensions. Having the applica- • tion forms and assistance available locally would be very useful to them," Mr. Kwinter said. As a public convenience, application forms will also be available in all Ontario land registry offices, but only the London of- fice will offer the direct -to -Toronto oronto courier service and have staff trained to assist in the completion of the forms. Mr. Kwinter said the London pilot project will be evaluated at the end of six months to determine if demand warrants expanding the service throughout the privince's net- work of land registry offices. The 65 land registry offices in Ontario register and record all land transactions in the province. In addition. a majority of the offices register liens and similar claims against personal property and 11 offices now provides over-the-counter incorporating services to the business community. "Access to Registrar General application forms in land registry offices continues a trend of decentralizating government ser- vices which I think is welcomed by the peo- ple of Ontario."
