"AY O; Octogenarians. receive certificates GODERICH TWP.-During the township sesquicentennial celebrations the 1-5-0 com- mittee honored octogenarians with presen- tions of 1-5-0 certificates. Since only 35 seniors were present at a special ceremony when these were handed out, a large number of the certificates still remain to be distributed. At the ceremony a photo was taken of the octogenarians present, and the 1-5-0 com- mittee has had copies made wishing to give these to all octogenarians - whether or not they were able to be in the photo. It was felt that those seniors not able to be in the photo would still enjoy a picture of their friends. Families of all qualifying seniors are ask- ed to pick up their photos (and certificates, if not yet received) at the Township Com- munity Centre, Holmesville on Sunday, December 15 from 2 till 4 p.m. If you are unable to pick up your photo and certificate at that time, please contact Gerry Ginn (524-4163 ) Alison Lobb (482- 7167 ) 482-7167) or Hazel McCreath (524-7436) to make alternate arrangements. Goderich Township 1-5-0 souvenirs, in- cluding the remaining Disney Wagon plates and township history books, will also be available for sale at that time, and would make an ideal Christmas gift for someone on your list. On that day Alison Lobb and her commit- tee will also have available for further proof-reading the histories submitted for the Goderich Township Families books. Unfor- tunately (since Alison is presently teaching full time) a large number of stories still re- main to be entered on the computer. Those not available for proofing on December 14 will have to be offered on a day next January. If your history was one of those not ready for proofreading in September, check with Alison as to when it will be ready (482- 7167). This is also the last date for bringing in photos for the Families book! Please make sure you have your name on each photo and include a list of the names, and the date, for each photo. ' People who have ordered their book by mail can also use this opportunity to pick up their certificate (or proof of purchase). It is hoped that people will make an effort to proof-read the patrons' list. Many times the complete address has not been designated, nor the maiden name of the wife. It is your responsibility to check the spellings and make sure all information is as YOU wish it! The Families book is expected to go to the printer in February and should be available for distribution by May 1986. Copies can still be ordered - for $40. Remember, the number printed will be based on the numbers preordered! If you wish a book for yourself, for a friend or relative, you must order ( and pay) in advance. Don't forget - Sunday, December 15th: 2-4 p.m. - Octogenarian's certificates and photos available at the Holmesville Hall. 5 Photos to go on drivers' licences in February TORONTO - Ontario Minister of Transportation and Communications Ed Fulton recently confirmed that the pro- vince's photo driver licensing system will go into operation February 3, 1986 with the mailing out of renewals. "Drivers will continue to renew their licences every three years on their date of birth as before." said Fulton, "now, however,- they will have to come into a ministry 'photo site' to have their picture taken." These sites...alinost 400 of them...include all Driver and Vehicle licence offices, ITT(' Driver Examination Centres and selected travel points and OPP offices in the more, remote areas of northern Ontario. The new two-part photo licence will con- sist of a laminated photo card and licence card. „Photo licensing provides a more positive• identification method," explained Fulton. "It prevents the misuse of driver licences, and offers a virtually tamper -proof licence." In addition, all new drivers will automatically enter the photilicensing pro- gram. Those requiring a replacement licence fit in the same category Reinstated drivers (other than those suspended for medical -related reasons i will be advised they must get a photo upon reinstatement. Photo licensing programs are existence in Alberta, British Columbia and Prince Ed- ward Island as well as .all 50 American states and the District of Columbia. -To offset the cost of the new program, renewal licence fees have been set at $21 every three years," said the Minister.
