e^wrho,are in'favor of such a facili-
`new filtizetiS', of G.oderich, we have
inquiries as to the. facilities and pro-
vailaple in the town. We were sur-
priee to., learn there was no year-round
dray .
Wif'. Children approaching high school
age, we were naturally interested to knQw-
ing. how the youth of Goderich spend their
leisure time. We were astounded to learn
that: the "Stag and Doe" is a popular
pastimie of the young people where they can
freely obtain any quantity of alcohol and
doubtless,,have to drive several miles home.
ravel running is a term we had never
heard before moving to Goderich. When we
asked what it meant we were very upset to
think this is the type of activity, our children
will grow into.
The area we came from was somewhat
larger, but similarly, experienced the pro-
blems of a youth population with the com-
plaint of nothing to do, vandalism, and hang-
ing out in arcades. There was a very signifi-
cant decrease in these problems with the
completion of the Games Complex with
year-round facilities for swimming and
fitness. It was expensive to build and a
challenge to maintain on a viable basis, but
definitely worthy ever cent and minute of
time.
AaGoderfch is one of the largest centres
in Huron County, it not only serves its own
citizens but a large outlying area as well. A
year-round community recreation facility
would reach many people with many
diverse needs. Everyone from toddlers to
senior citizens would benefit physically,
mentally and socially from such a facility.
Children would learn at an early age the
benefits and fun of "being in shape"; our
youth would have a central meeting place
where they could have fun and develop
healthy attitudes, minds and "a great look-
ing body"; the men and women of the com-
munity would enjoy the physical activity
and socializing in the exercise room, squash
court, etc.; and our seniors could have the
chance of the year-round availability of a
facility to maintain their physical and men-
tal health. It would mean a bringing
together of all the members of our com-
munity in a healthy and positive at-
mosphere to the mutual benefit of all.
We support the idea of a community
recreation facility. We hope all the citizens
of Goderich will consider the need and the
benefits of such a project for everyone in our
area.

Skaters of all ages were invited to attend the third annual Good Cheer Skate held at the
local arena on Sunday. The admission price for the event was one can of food to be
donated to the Huron County Family and Children's Services Christmas Bureau. These
five skaters donated their canned goods to be distributed to needy families in the
Goderich area for Christmas. From the left, are front, Lori Dykstra, Lisa Dykstra and
