First elimination bowling
tournament held in Goderich
The first Elimination Tournament ever to
be held in Goderich took place this past
weekend. it was open and entries came
from Stratford, Seaforth, Zurich. Clinton,
Rayfield and Goderich.
The one day event, consisted of five
games. Everyone participated but only the
top 24 bowlers based on their five game total
played in the sixth game. The 24 bowlers
still in for game six were on one game basis.
Out of the 24 only 16 sa>, further competi-
tion This pattern continued on down i„
eight then four then two. The four bowlers
rolled -off for the final two positions for the
championship.
in the four man competition Bob Atkinson
of Clinton rolled a 295, Dennis Schmidt of
Goderich howled a 243, Doug Donaldson of
Stratford bowled a 208 and Dick McLean of
Goderich rolled a 287.
The top two scorers, qualified to roll one
last game to decide the championship.
Bob Atkinson took an early lead as he
started with three strikes but then Dick
McLean got rolling and had four strikes in a
row iri the fourth to seventh frames.
Rob had trouble with the two hcadpins in
the fourth and fifth frames but he came
back with strikes in the seventh and eighth.
It came down to the final two frames, Bob
was first and was not able to mark and took
a five count. Dick spared and only needed to
count big on his first ball in the tenth to
clinch the game. Bob put the pressure nn as
he struck out in the tenth for a 240 game.
Dick was not about to leave anything to
the last ball as he counted 13 on the first ball
and sealed the win. Dick finished with a 255
and by virtue of eliminating all others was
first place Champion of our first Elimina-
tion Tournament.
Other statistics of the day: Kevin Rumig
high single award 345, Bob Graham
Goderich I and John Douglas ( Stratford I
tied for high five award with 1302.
Special thanks to Dennis Schmidt, Janet
and Kevin Rumig and Mari Moore for their
work on organizing and help in running a
very exciting tournament.
