Novices defeat Thamesford 5-0
as Meriam scores three goals
The Goderich Novices got a three -goal
performance from Jason Meriam and
shutout goaltending from Dirk Wolterbeek
as they defeated Thamesford 5-0 in
Shamrock League play here Saturday.
The novices took control of the game
early scoring in the first minute of play.
They lead 3-0 after one period and clinched
the win with two goals in the final period.
Ron Klages started the offence rolling
converting a pass from linemates Jeff
Volland and Ken McLarty afterust 29
seconds of play. Mike McBride put
Goderich ahead by two goals before the
game was two minutes old, scoring on an
unassisted effort.
Meriam took over and scored three
straight goals to boost Goderich into a five -
goal lead. His first goal came midway
through the first period with Brian Hodges
assisting. The teams played through a
scoreless second period but Meriam
scored his second goal midway through the.
final period to make the score 4-0 and he
completed his hat -trick with a goal in the
final minute of the game. Rob Kinahan set
up both goals.
In its other two games, the novices
defeated Mount Brydges 2-0 and lost to
Lambeth 8-2.
Mike McBride and Jeff Klages scored in
the 2-0.win while Chris Lyndon turned in a
fine performance to record the shutout.
Against Lambeth, McBride and Ken
McLarty did the scoring for Goderich.

Shir'rs Girls had a good night as they took; ,.
seven points from Trouble''s. Back. The
"Girls" were led by Brenda. Teichert 209,
Bev Whetstone, 214, 215, 621 triple and
Dorothy Bourdeau 239, 622 triple. Trouble's
Back had high games rolled by Verna
Jackson, 152, Mary Chambers 172 and-
Audrey Durnin, 193, 528 triple.
Auleen's Angels are still leading the
league and took five points from the No
Names. Top bowlers for the "Angels" were
Vicki Dineen, 229, Carolyn Carter 241 and
Brenda Dineen 243, 644 triple. The No
Names took two points and were led by
Pauline Jacques 186, June Rourke 152, Anne
McCartney 200 and Del Geddes 216, 552 tri-
ple.
The Marionettes were bowling against 100
percent of their average and took five
points. Marilyn Bannister rolled a 215 and
Betty Fisher 228, 232, 622 triple.
Benmiller wins
bowling final
The Western Ontario 5 Pin Bowling finals
were held in Woodstock on October 27. Four
teams from the Benmiller Foresters Lodges
made it to the finals.
The winning team was from Benmiller.
They were Marg Swan, Mary Bissett, Brian
McLean, Arlene Curran, Tom Willis and
Doug Fuller. The high singles went to Ruth
Oke and Jack Gilbert and the high five to
Arlene Curran and Doug Fuller, all from
Benmiller.
On Saturday, November 2 the High Chief
Rangers Tournament was held at the Little
Bowl in Goderich with ten teams competing.
Benmiller Lodge No. 86 was the host for
this tournament. Toronto Lakeshore City
was the winner.
Placing second was Benmiller No. 2 with
Dale Robertson, Ralph and Arlene Curran
and Ted and Sylvia Johnston. Ladies high
single went to Arlene Curran and high five
to Dale Robertson.
The men's high single was John Loader
and high five went to Joe Tlarnai, both of the
winning Toronto team.
A dinner was held afteir at the' Candlelight.
Congratulations to Benmiller for having
the most entries itt both tournaments and to
the bowlers fora job well done.
