been awarded to }Ikon u ty on behalf of
the Town of Goderich, J ck `Riddell, MPP
Huron -Middlesex, announced recently.
Speaking on behalf of Municipal Affairs
Minister Bernard Grandma** ' Riddell
said the grant trill be used to undertake a
Commericial Policies Study for Goderich.
Community planning grants are designed
to encourage municipalities to resolve land
use planning issues to reflect municipal and
economic priorities.
The grants may also be used for special
studies to develop community improvement
policies; to determine the feasibility of us-
ing data processing technology in the local
planning process; and to assist in im-
plementing the Planning Act.
Landowners
approve
erosion control
• from page 1
The landowners also asked about a
clause in the draft agreement between
them and the town which absolves the
town of responsibility for damages.
"We're not guaranteeing anything, not
even that we'll finish it," said Hunter. "If
it works, it works. If it doesn't, we don't
want.any responsibility for it. It's amazing
what you get sued for these days."
Though it could be 15 to 20 years before
any development on the beach below the
eroded bluffs is completed, the landowners
agreed about the benefits of such a
development citing their approval of the
work done at St. Christopher's Beach and
the main beach.
"It will certainly be a tremendous
tourist asset to the town," said Reinhart.
"And, we'll sleep better not worrying
about going over the bank," added
McManus.
The landowners present at the meeting
were Gordon McManus, Stewart Knight,
Muriel Reinhart, George Clancy and
Leonard and Jean Bannerman. Absent
were Herbert Such and Allen Warden, of
Hamilton.
