Orgganizer George Zolab expects some find curling in 'a friendly atmosphere, and plans some special nights for later on in the year. John Garrett is hopingfor a good turn -out for the new Family Leauon Sunday after- noons. The first outing will -be this .week -end. Non-members and family members of curlers are invited to come out at 2 PM to get in on the fun. Special family rates are available for non-members. Watch for results in the various leagues as curling goes into full swing this week at the Maitland Curling Club. Lambeth defeats Goderich Bantams 7-3 The Goderich Elevator Bantams made it eight straight wins last Wednesday with a 6- 1 victory in Exeter. Goderich took the lead at 5:57 of the first period with an unassisted goal by Byron Bowman. Scott Garrow made it 2-0 less than two minutes later, with the assist going to Bowman. Exeter scored less than a minute later to close the gap to one, on an unassisted goal by Jon O'Connor. Goderich spread the gap to two on a goal by Bill Whetstone with the assist going to Garrow. Garrow then added his second and third goals of the game with Greg DeWinter and Whetstone drawing assists to close out the scoring in the second. Byron Bowman scored his second of the game early in the third to make the score 6- 1. On Saturday night the Elevators suffered their first loss of the season at the hands of the Lambeth Mechanics 8-4. The game started off being a very tight defensive game with end to end rushes by both teams. Lambeth opened the scoring at 2:38 of the first period with Lee Baker scoring with assists going to Steve Papp and Jordie Price. Goderich came right back less than a minute later on a good solo effort from John Maclnnis scoring on a low slap shot. The second period was not a good period for the Elevators being outscored 4 to 2. Lambeth scored three goals in the first five minutes of the period to open a 4-1 lead. Goderich got one back 1:17 second later with a goal from Mike Beange with assists going to Bill Trebish and Byron Bowman. Lambeth scored again at 8:08 to take a 5-2 lead, but Goderich came back to close the gap on a goal from Byron Bowman with the assist going to Scott Garrow. Lambeth team got off to a fast start in the third period with a goal at the 1:04 mark and another at the 5:21 mark to make the score 7-3. Scott Garrow won the ensuing faceoff and went down the ice to score an unassisted goal at 5:28 but that was to be the end of the scoring for the Elevators. Lambeth scored once again to finish the scoring at 6:36 on a goal by Jeff Dowler with Jason Dowler and Duane Desrosier drawing the assists. The Lambeth team has only suffered one defeat so far this season. The next garne for the Elevators is Saturday versus Thamesford. The No Names won three points and had some good games rolled by Donna Duncan, 184 and Del Geddes had 285 for a 631 triple. Bev Million led the Oldtimers to a four -point gain with 206, 215 for a 576 triple. Skirl's girls had a hot night as they took the iviarionettes tor seven points. The "Girls" had some big games rolled by Joyce Pettus who rolled a 187, Bev Whetstone shot 260, Dorothy Bourdeau had 261, while Barb Almasi shot 254 for a 630 triple and Shirley Kennedy had 253 for a 693 triple. It was not a good night for the Marionettes who were led by Marion Beacom with 193. Marilyn b<I nnister shot 200 for a 574 triple. Auleen's Angels were really on a roll as they took seven points from the Blazers. High rollers for the Angels were Marg Miller with 215, Joan Burleigh had 224, Carolyn Carter had 240 for a 593 triple. The Blazers had good games rolled by Jean Pinder with 191, 198 and Joyce Hamilton rolled 212 for a 541 triple. Trouble's Back had a real struggle as they bowled against 100 percent of their average. It came off the face-off with Tom Bean scoring and Mark Cauchi assisting. Lambeth added a goal to make it 3 - 2 and from there opened the game up as Goderich took a few penalties. The Goderich defence played well in this last period as did goalie Gord McInnis. After the second week of hockey for the Legion Midgets, they have a record of 3-3. The second game of a home and home series against Parkhill was played last Fri- day night, in, ,Park sand did no have the fast paced action the last game diad, but Goderich got off to a fast start. They took on- ly 18 seconds to secure their first goal. Jirn Beattie rushed up ice and deposited the puck in the home team's goal while Ian MacKin- non drew an assist. Parkhill tied the game and it looked like the teams would finish the first period with a tie. Steve Hutchins blasted a shot from the point with 18 seconds Left. It was set up by Brent Fowler. There was no scoring in the second period. In the third period neither team could get any momentum until Hutchins scored his se- cond goal unassisted. Then Goderich really came to life. Seven seconds later Brent Fowler tipped in a goal assisted by Beattie and MacKinnon. To add final insult to the Parkhill team, Hutchins got his hattrick on a long, curving shot from inside his own bluellne. The final score was 5-1 in favour of Goderich. Coach Austin praised goalie Gord MacIn- nis in his first game in the Goderich net. He also gave credit to Steve Hutchins and Neil Rodger for their efforts. Last Saturday Goderich went up against Port Stanley and defeated them 6-4. For a second game Goderich scored first on a goal by Dave Duncan assisted by linemates Mark Cauchi and Tom Bean. Twenty-seven seconds later Cauchi scored with Duncan getting an assist. Port Stanley answered back, but Cauchi blasted a shot that missed the net but Gary Erb slipped it past the Port Stanley goaltender. Port Stanley netted a final goal in the last minute of the period. In the second period Goderich kept up their attack and five minutes into the period Matt Wilkinson scored assisted by Ryan Kelly and Neil Rodger. Three minutes later Jim Beattie netted another with assists go- ing to Tim Wilson and Richard Boddy. Again Port Stanley scored with one minute to play in the second period. In the third period the two teams traded goals - Goderich's goal was scored by Cauchi assisted by Duncan. The line of Dun- can, Cauchi and Bean played exceptionally well as they accumulated eight points. Coach Austin also added goalie Jay William- son as star of the game. Godes• h plays at home against Exeter Saturda at 8:30. Monday night ladies The Hondas took five points and the Edsels only got two points. Top bowler for the Hondas was Mary Lou Melick with a 498 followed by Anne Linklater with a 490. Doreen Willis was top bowler for the Edsels with a 489. Janet Rumig was top bowler for the Rolls Royce with a 633, they also took five points, while the Caddies only took two points, The high bowler was Ilene Sil-lih with a 574. The Mustangs took five points led by Barb Pigg who bowled a 572. Elsa Fickert was high bowler for her team with a 482. They got two points. The Porsches were led by Audrey Brindley with a 566 and took sever, points. The Ramblers' high bowler was Joyce Hamilton with a 489. The Hot Rods took five points led by Shirley Smith with a 546. The Love Bugs got two points. They were led by Grace Mugford with a 534 followed by Penny Breen with, a 501. Ar t5
