With just under two minute, reitif 1 ;
Goderich was stopped in Panther ter►
ritory. The 'Vikings anted the ball about.
two yards deep in a endoone,
Before the kick I didn't think that
Goderich, would come away with a point.
They wouldn't have either, if Darryl
"the cannon ball" Black didn't explode off
of the line and throw a diving tackle into
the Exeter punt returner.
It was one of the best tackles I have ever
seen, Take a bow Darryl. Other tips of the
hat should go to Grant Garrow for his
fourth quarter pie in the sky interception
that clinched the win for the Vikings.
Matt "the wildman" Buchanan should
also be congratulated for his devastating
block that sent the Exeter quarterback
reeling. Kevin "the Hit Man" Telford
should also be given a big round of ap-
plause for not losing his cool when the Ex-
eter defenders were taunting him.
All in all the whole Goderich squad made
GDCI and the entire town proud of them in
their victory over Exeter Saturday. I was
very impressed with the intestinal for-
titude the 19 members of the Goderich
squad displayed. They were outmanned,
but they weren't outplayed or outsmarted,
they kept their cool and they did the job for
coaches Ray Donnelly and Chris Connor.

Sailors lose big
Two people that are glad to see the foot-
ball season over with are "Tag" Sowerby
and Dan Duncan the coaches of the
Goderich Sailors.
Friday night the Sailors hosted Walker-
ton and were blown out of the water 13-3.
To put the game in perspective,
Goderich has proven that they are a good
hockey club. A contributing factor in the
Sailors loss Friday night, was the fact that
six of the players were scheduled to play
Exeter in the Huron -Perth football final on
Saturday.
In a post game conversation, the
coaches felt that Saturday's football game
was responsible for the beating they
received at the hands of the Walkerton
The Goderich Junior C Sailors were trouced Friday night 13-3 by the second place Walkerton
Blackhawks. The Sailors did not have their heads in the game. Six of the players were get-
ting ready for the football final against Exeter Saturday afternoon. The team is hoping to
redeem themselves Friday at home against the mighty Hanover Barons. ( photo by Todd

thCy weren't eltating.. and we' the

The coaches weren't making excuses,
but they were merely trying to, figure' out
how they could play so well against
Hanover and sink to the depths that they
did Friday night.
The most exciting part of Friday's game
was the Zamboni cleaning the ice in
between pe, .ods. Goderich played
haphazardly and they know it. But now
that the football season is over, they hope
to once again pull up anchor and continue
to navigate their way through the regular
season.
If Friday was your first game, don't
despair. I have not been leading you
astray. Friday night Hanover comes to
town, with their undefeated record intact
and the Sailors have a score to settle with
them. They know they can beat them, but
they also knowthey have to play good
hockey and stay out of the penalty box.
Goderich has a new face in the line up,
come out for a look see.
Sailors
to host
Hanover
The Goderich Sailors have two home
games this weekend that coaches Dan Dun-
can and "Tag" Sowerby see as very impor-
tant.
Friday, they play Kincardine here at 8:30
p.m. The two teams go into the game with
identical records, 3-7, and tied for fourth
place in the OHA Central Junior "C" stan-
dings. Sunday at 7 p.m. the Sailors entertain
the last place Wingham Ironmen. The
games represent a real chance for the
Sailors to move up in the standings before
they embark on a tough part of the schedule
which will see them play six of their eight
games between now and Christmas in op-
position.
The Sailors also are looking for a chance
to redeem themselves with their home fans.
Last Friday, the Sailors had one of those
games when nothing went right. The result
was a 13-3 blowout at the hands of the
Walkerton Blackhawks who used the victory
to move one point ahead of the Port Elgin
Bears into second place.
