The Goderich branch registered a 400 per cent increase in industrial training in the first nine months of 1985 compared to 1984 figures. Given at the Ontario Council Meeting in Toronto Oct. 19, Renaud explained that the award recognizes the effort at the branch level in Goderich. "Last year about 10 per cent of the popula- tion received some kind of training from St. John Ambulance and we have about 700 peo- ple in training this year," he explained. "Companies are required to offer first aid training to some personnel and also health care training has been higher." There are about 60 individuals involved in the Goderich branch and the instructors in- clude Hilda Sampson, • Robert Burroughs, Frank Wilson, Murray Hill, Louise Graham, Gary Renaud and Caroline Wirtzfeld. Covering a territory that includes Goderich and an area within a 30 mile radius, the St. John Ambulance brigade has been most visible and active. "There are about 60 individuals involved and they get great satisfaction helping peo- ple," Renaud said. "It takes a great com- mitment because they give up their free time." The members of the brigade were involv- ed in 4,000 hours of community service work, which is only attendance at events and does not take into account training and teaching hours.
