But, the•,last one had no name of his ship on the lifejacket so his nationality was never known, The other 20 were all identified and taken to their home towns for burial," said Ron Pennington, the local expert on the subject. The graveside service has been held for the past eight years since Pennington approached Goderich council with his story. The storm which started Nov. 7, 1913 on Lake Superior claimed eight ships when it reached southern Lake Huron. Murdoch MacDonald, one of the three Goderich seamen who lost their lives in the storm, was one of 175 seamen who died during the storm on Lake Huron. MacDonald was the only one of the three Goderich seamen to wash ashore. He is buried at the Maitland Cemetery as well. Along the beach from Southampton to Kettle Point, 75 seamen were washed ashore. Five unknown seamen were also washed ashore in Kincardine where they were buried. In 1979, Kincardine town council marked their graves but it does not hold a service for them. "Goderich is the only community to hold an annual graveside service for the seamen so we should remember the Kincardine seamen here as well," said Pennington. Wreaths were placed at the gravesite by the town of Goderich, the Goderich Legion Branch 109 and the Goderich Kinsmen Club. 4.' 140. :0.04 just one test drive will change you. The van was available on November 6, for any of the residents who wished to take ad- vantage of the outing, to go shopping_. The mid -week chapel service was held on November 7, with Mrs. Prouty in charge. The scripture lesson was read by Milford Prouty. Devotional readings were given by Mildred Marwick, Mabel Scott and Olive Colwell. On November 8 the auditorium was filled as residents and friends gathered' to hear Rev. Bonnie Turner read her award-winning essay, "What The Poppy Means To Me", that she presented in Ot- tawa last year. Mr. Woodall recited "In Flander's Fields" and Stuart Taylor placed a wreath at the front of the hall in remem- brance.
