available.
Thinking that I was not going to get in
touch with him, I started to shake. As"I
put the receiver down, the phone rang
and it was Lucas.
I asked him about the Goderich offense
and how he thought it would fare against
Exeters.
"If you would have asked me that ques-
tion before the semi-final, I would have
told you that Exeter had the better of-
fense. But since the Vikings beat us 62-0,
I would say that the two are evenly mat-
ched.
Goderich has better offensive lineman
and they move around very well, but I
think Exeter has bigger, stronger runn-
ing backs..
"As far as quarterbacks go, I think
Goderich has the edge from what I've
seen this year. The Goderich quarter-
back (Grant Garrow) is a better passer
and a better runner.
"Defensively I think if Goderich plays
their first stringers and they play the
way they showed they can, they have the
definite advantage on defense.
"As far as cornerbacks are concerned
I think Goderich's are better. They are
faster, tougher and they get in on a good
number of tackles. But neither team let
us get to the outside on them, they are
both pretty tough to run on." Lucas said.

When asked, whae key to the game
would'be he p ed, I think Who ever

If Goderich erts to get chippy, like they
did against. itis, ther could be in tro ble..
But if they keep their cool and play
disciplined football, they shouldido well.
"I don't think motivation will be a pro-
blem for the players. I do think . the
coaches will have to have control over
their teams and make sure they. are not
too eager. The job of the coaches before
this game will be to calm the players
down and have them put the game in
perspective," he said.
I think Goderich is a good high school
football team, but I think Exeter has
more depth and I pick therm to win by one
point ," Lucas said.
I then phoned Listowel to talk to Don
Black, the Lords' head coach. I asked
Black the same questions as I did Lucas.
"The two teams offensively strong,
they each have their strong points. It is
an excellent match -up and they definite-
ly are the best two teams in the league,"
Lucas said.
"Exeter has superior manpower and is
perhaps a little bigger, but with the 18 or
19 guys that Goderich dresses they have
a lot of quality.
"As far as running backs go I think Ex-
eter has the edge, because they are big-
ger and stronger. But at the same time,
Goderich has quicker more elusive backs
that know where the goal line is."
"Both teams have very fine quarter-
backs and on Saturday it will be just a

on both clubs are very good and I
couldn't:give.one team the advantage
over -the other in that department ,"
Black said
"Both teams have excellent specialty
teams. They can both run back punts and
kick-offs well. I think one of the teams
will pull something different off in the
game. They will do something that they
have not even attempted during the
regular season," he said.
"I think if I had to pick a team, I would
give the advantage to Exeter by no more
than seven points. I think it is a matter of
tradition that these two schools are going
up against each other in the finals,"
Black said.
After those two controversial predic-
tions I took my pad and paper in search
of someone optimistic and I ran into the
resident highschool correspondent TD.
I asked him the same questions to see
what his feelings were on this classic
match -up. It seems that our objective
correspondent wears the Viking blue
through and through.
"Offensively the Vikings have come
together as a unit in the last part of the
season, and in the last home game
against Exeter they proved that they
were the best, both offensively and defen-
sively, shutting down the Exeter ground
game," he said.
"Exeter doesn't have anyone as fast as
Kevin Beattie and on defense they are far
superior," he said.
"In the quarterback spot, it will de -

As far as theaintan les go, "Goderich
-has the home- ield.a vantage, along with
that they want to keep the Viking tradi-
tion alive by winning. I know it will be a
low scoring game, but I give the Vikings
the edge by seven points. If I had to
predict the final score I would say 21-14
for Goderich," TD said.
I am not going to go out on a limb per-
sonally, but I will comment on the Viking
chances.
Strolling the Viking side Dries all year I
have noticed a number of things.
I have learned that you don't need to
have 40 guys on a football team to win.
All you need is the desire and the will to
win.
I feel that the Goderich Vikings have
the will to win and have the players that
can do the job.
There is no doubt that the Viking team of
1985 has character. It is just a question of
how much character they have and how
bad they want to win the Huron -Perth
championship. With fellows on the team
like Ray "The Bruiser" Bedard and .
Matt "The Wildman" Buchanan, the
team will stand in good stead.
In reality as everybody knows there is
no real way to pick a winner before the
game has even started, but it is a learn-
ing experience to look into the statistics
and records of the teams involved.
The only realistic way to be sure of the
outcome is to show up and watch the
game on Nov. 9 at 1:30 p.m.
Barons remain undefeated
from page 1
Nixon received an unsportsmanlike conduct
penalty for arguing the point too vigorously
and the Sailors scored on the ensuing
powerplay to take a 5 - 3 lead. Todd Jeffrey
scored the goal, assisted by Armstrong and
Mark Burbine.
Barons' Rob Wallace scored on a long shot
to cut the Sailors' lead to one and then Scott
Batterman's goal tied the score 13 minutes
into the second period. Rob Beitz got what
proved to be the winning goal for Hanover,
batting a loose puck into the corner of the
net at 15:17 of the seeand period.
The third period was scoreless, but action -
packed. The Sailors had several
breakaways and hit two goalposts but failed
to cash in on their chances as Nixon rose to
the occasion.
The Sailors continued to play good
hockey, taking only 12 minor penalties while
the Barons were tagged for 18.
Friday, the Sailors will be at home to the
Walkerton Blackhawks at 8:30 p.m. The
Blackhawks are currently tied for second
place with the Port Elgin Bears.
