There were g.raciouS accolades, toasts
and greetings aielected and appointed of
ficials from across Huron County gathered,;
in Goderich to attend the annual warden's
banquet.
The end of year comments were made
about Paul Steckle, reeve of Stanley
Township, and the man who has served as.
Huron County warden during 1985.
Hullett Reeve Tom Cunningham acted as
master of ceremonies for the evening which
concluded with a dance at the Goderich and
District Memorial Community Centre.
The annual gift to the warden was
presented this year, by Goderich Reeve
Harry Worsell and Stephen Township Depu-
ty Reeve Ralph Weber. Entitled Autumn in
the Laurentians, the northern landscape
original oil painting was done by Berge A.
Missakian of Montreal.
Steckle's family, friends and neighbors
were in attendance and so were some
political colleagues.
The provincial minister of health, Murray
Elston, congratulated the warden on behalf
of the other two members of parliament
from Huron County. The provincial
agriculture minister Jack Riddell was pre-
sent at the banquet, but MP Murray Cardiff
sent his regrets.
Steckle is leaving municipal politics and is
not seeking re-election in the November 12
municipal election.
Museum and
Historical Jail
get grants
A total of $2,617,333 in funding 201
museums across Ontario was announced
recently by the Honourable Lily Munro,
Minister of Citizenship and Culture.
"Funding for community museums is bas-
ed on standards introduced last year in con-
sultation with local museums and provincial
organizations," Dr. Munro explained. "The
standards outline specific development and
up -grading of activities such as research,
collection records management, staff train-
ing, exhibition and conservation standards
and organizing of educational programs."
Among theeums receiving assistance
were three instiffitions qualifying for sup-
port for the first time. MacLachlan Wood-
working Museum in the Township of Pitt-
sburgh, O'Hara Mill Museum in the
Township of Madoc and Spadina in Toronto
were awarded grants of $1,623, $1,629 and
$15,569 respectively for the first time.
"The commitment and hard work of local
museums throughout the province allows
each of us to reflect upon our common past
and vision for the future," Dr. Munro said.
"I am delighted to acknowledge community
museums for their efforts in responding to
their communities' needs through new and
expanded programs."
The Huron County Pioneer Museum in
Goderich received a grant of $27,921 for 1985
and the Huron Historical Jail, also in
Goderich, received a grant of $8,676.

Since Sept. 3, all students have received a
writing folder which holds their writing for
the year. Teachers were requested to try a
specific approach to the teaching of writing.
During the morning of November 15,
teachers will be given an opportunity to
share their success and difficulties related
to the writing task. Presentors will make
suggestions to assist teachers to initiate
writing and to promote student growth
throughout the school year.
In the afternoon, teachers will team about
the concept of "conferencing". The purpose
of conferencing is to lead students to
