Hallowe'en was quiet say police The GDCI dance was fun for all ages and sexes. Here Dave "The Gorilla" Almasi poses with Ray "Boom Boom" Bedard. Bedard ended up winning the best costume for his female im- personator get up.( photo by Todd Mowatt ) It Was a very quiet Hallowe'en; say the Goderich police. But, the night before, vandals spray painted a wall at Robertson Public School and at the Goderich arena. One problem that has been surfacing in town is the increasing number of bicycle thefts especially from Robertson Public School and the Goderich high school. In October, 24 bikes were stolen. Police have recovered 18 and charges are pending. Goderich OPP also reported that Hallowe'en was quiet for them with the ex- ception of one traffic accident. A Goderich man hit and killed a deer on highway 21 two miles outside of Goderich. His car sustained $2,000 in damages and he was not injured. Searls withdraws motion A motion made by Coun. Jim Searls to discontinue all negotiations dealing with Dr. J. Rourke regarding public access to the waterfront area was withdrawn after a closed session with the town's solicitor Dan Murphy at council's Nov. 4 meeting. "As far as I'm concerned, we have nothing to negotiate," said Searls before the closed session. His motion was seconded by Coun. Bob Cornish. Coun. Glen Carey recommended going into closed session to discuss advice from the solicitor. "It would be folly if advice about ongoing litigation were not, at least at first instance, discussed in private. If not, there's no point in hiring a solicitor," he said. The recorded vote to go into closed session was unanimous. Deputy Reeve John Doherty was absent. Council was also unanimously in favor of the motion coming from the closed session which instructed the town solicitor to further pursue discussion with the solicitor of the Rourkes.
