(photo by Susan Hundertmark) classmate olooks on. Last Thursday afternoon, the staff and Remember Brian Markson ? November, coming in as expected - but I hope it still has some nice weather somewhere along the line. This makes me wonder how many are planning and/or working on their Christmas Parade entry. "Comic Book Characters" are the theme. Line up on Elgin Ave. for start at 1 p.m. on November 23. It is only seventeen days away. We must keep the Spirit of Christmas spinning. After all these years my heart still goes out to Santa who has to listen to hundreds of kids and their "I wants” - many of which are outrageous! One year I won't forget when working on a float, I had started on Humpty Dumpty when someone called and said, "No, itis "Hi Diddle Diddle"! " ' I like the old storybook characters. They are, to me, the easy ones. But this year it is the "comic" book characters - and I find many of them not funny - but "funny" is not a factor to worry about. You can have a grouch if you like. Bazaars, fairs, teas and so on are now in action - some of them over! But get into ac- tion for the word is going around and Santa and his elves are real busy. So let's get cracking! There have been a lot of changes over the years since I was really involved. One of the main things was keeping folks up to date on the "happenings". When I look over some of my "Round 'n Abouts" I seemed to be the Town Crier of the day. Luckily, this has led to the nice bulletin board andthe community calendar which for years Auere used to finish my col- umn. So much for the good old days and pro- gress! The first Goderich Little Theatre play of the seasbn '85-'86 is over and everyone seemed to enjoy it. This is the first time I have seen a dozen or more gals in one play with a man nowhere in sight! I really warmed up in the second act when the "Murder She Said" theme - one of my favorites on T.V. - got going. The whole house seemed to sit up and take notice. We always love a challenge - don't we? It was a full house every night. Thursday night, night of goblins and such, had some empty seats, but that was remedied by folks from Huronview of Clin- ton and some folks from "rest" homes in town. So it -worked out very well. To Jenny Black and her girls - a big "thank you" for a job well done. Here's one I would like to see again - Bar- naby - and on the first of the season, so I don't miss it. Many of you will recall the Brian Markson, who had a travel agency shop on Hamilton St. They were a great help with Little Theatre - really enjoyed it. I have one of Brian's "writings" which is wonderful - "May love and joy and merri- ment go with you thru' the years, togetherness is nurtured where mistrust disappears. Accept each other's reasonsrfor things not understood - Discuss a point, don't argue, it may be for your good. And when the years have passed you and children bless your way, you'll look back on joy and merriment of all those happy days." Another thought of Santa, listening to all those kids with their great expensive ideas - they should learn, before Christmas, the value and price of some toys so they can be happy with the toys they receive. They will soon enough be into computers - it makes me recall years ago when my son in Florida allowed his kids to "play?" with a computer he had been using for years - one of the firsts. Now computers are just part of learning - another machine that if properly program- med can tell you just about anything you want to hear...or see! Progress fascinates - and scares me to pieces! Be aware, take care of yourself and others. Love you, Martha. DENTURE THEFAPY CLINIC open Mon.-Fri.6:30 am -5:30 pm Eve. & Weekend -by appt. Horst Feige D.T.
