5Monday was bright -;d beautifull at 6.30
a4n. - but egld. Around noon It was warn)
and enjoyable. THEIN now - hope it is the
same or better when yeti read this.
Sunday was a Special day - my BIRTH-
DAY - I'm 77! I had lots of calls from family
and friends but the highlight of the day was
when the kids from Sarnia arrived. Chris
and Susie with Meaghan and Chrissy - a
delightful, interesting - on -the -go family.
Bless them!
Thinking back on BIRTHDAYS -every one
becomes more interesting as I think back
over the year's happenings. And, over the
years of so many changes and wonderful in-
ventions - oh, I could (and DO) go on and orl
and on.
Anyway, Susie and the children and I went
LOOKING. The beaches were a first. She
could hardly believe the changes and great
improvements taking place at the beach and
harbor - and all the old buildings - GONE!
I'm glad they are preparing, now, for the
extension of St. Christopher's Beach. Quite
an undertaking! Coming back towards the
dock - those old silver birhces were just
Beautiful. I wonder how many really SEE it.
The windsurfers were out the water was

Sue hadn't seep the new "Board Walk"
which goes all the way over to the "OLD"
beach and was quite impressed. She loves
Our beach - and Pipers Dam - where she had
fun (when she was little) and all the rest of
Goderich.
She Was the. one, when we had the
"FARM", who would dance and sing - put-
ting her own words to the tune - and always
making there rhyme' She doesn't know how
she did it since she doesn't do it now! •
After° big.. ice _cream cones – sorry the
Marine; Museurn.at 2 or 3 p.m. was closed! -
we headedto the north pier then back to the
FleaMarket which I had forgotten.
White there she took the children through
the Old Goal.- they were all greatly impress-
ed and amazetribnd couldn't quit talking
about it. I still think if some of these 'off the
beam' kids had to spend ONE night in that
place it would cut the crime rate to ZILCH!
Most parents taking young children
around the "Goal", assure them we haven't
that kind of Jails Today. The space is large

the beds are goad as, is the. food and one
doesn't stay long they tell them - so the kids
aren't afraid to destroy or steal nowadays -
and to me, THAT IS SAD. They should know
that going to jail is bad, not good.
Children, six to seven are very impres-
sionable - and remember things very well -
so that is the time they should be taught how
bad it is to do stupid things. The Police do
their best talking to the classes, but it should
be done - oftener!
So, we spent some time at the Flea
Market. - What with Garage Sales, Yard
Sales and so on - we collect a lot of goodies!
Some day — SOME DAY - I will -- I'll let
you know WHEN!
At any rate the day was a'fun day -
everyone happy but it ended too soon, but
they promised to come back soon - they
PROMISED!
was thrilled when a lady at the Flea
1V1arket caught up with me to tell me how
much, over the years, she had enjoyed my
"Column". She said she recognized me by
the way I wore my hair - by others ' descrip-
tions of me. How about THAT!
Then a couple of hours later - a big man I
hadn't seen in years stopped me to say the

know about.'I wasn't sure if I should be flat-
tered or feel a lot older. It was both but I en-
joyed the story of the car - same paint, same
tires and he shows it in the parades.
That brings us up to the local Parade of
Youth — such a nice title, for this July 1
Parade, Hope y.,ae. are all ready for it. I think
the fireworks are Sunday night.
Anyone need help finishing their entry?
Let me know. - 4-7854. I enjoy doing this..
Have a care.

Helen and Osborne Falkiner celebrated
their 50th Wedding Anniversary this past
weekend. Attending the celebration were
their son Glen of Goderich, daughter Anne
of Woodstock and her husband Tony Decoo
and their children Peter and Andrea. They
resided in Galt for 24 years following their
marriage June 21, 1935. In 1959 they pur-
chased the Carlow Store and retired to
Goderich in 1973.

pect other people to look after them?"
Senior citizens get discounts off admis-
sions to movies and bus fares and often
travel much more than other groups. They
also often own their own homes and
therefore don't have those payfnents to
make.
Blundell questions whether seniors who
complain about their standard of living may
be spending money on "intoxicating li-
quors" when they could be putting the
money to better uses.
"Some people could have $1000 today and
tomorrow it would be all gone." he says.
With his pension from Domtar where he
worked for 35 years added'to Canada Pen-
sion and his and his wife's old age pension,
the Blundells are comfortable, he says.
"There should be a means test to boost the
living of those who are hard-pressed before
any de -indexing is done," he suggests.
Rev. Arthur Young, of Goderich agrees
it's best to pay only seniors who need it.
"Those with high pensions shouldn't be paid
as much as those with low pensions."
Acknowledging that the prices for
everything have gone up, he says seniors
are getting better pensions that they used to.
"Pensions are pretty high from when I
started getting mine 10 years ago. The most
recent senior are probably depending on
their ,pensiongmere than I- am. _-don't--think
the de -indexing will affect me," he says.
Bea Aberhart says on top of her teacher's
pension, the old age pension is just "gravy."
"The de-intrexing -deesn't.really affect me
one bit. I don't really need my old age pen-
sion. But, I feel sorry for those who will be
affected. I'd be willing to give my share to
