First action according to
schedule in GMSL
BY BREWSTER
The first week of action in the GMSL went
according to schedule and prediction. The
good teams are still good and the reverse
appears to be true as well.
A quick glance at the standings reveals a
new stat this year. We may not print it every
week, but it will be kept track of. The exact
purpose for it is still unknown but it could
prove interesting at the very least.
A rundown of the scores show Ernie's
Roadhouse Raiders posting a 12-6 victory
over Sunnys. The Bulldogs blasted the
Gators 17-2 while Little Bowl used the home
run bat to mercy Garb and Gear 24-9.
Goderich Nissan blanked Local 1863 by a
score of 10-0. Century 21 scored three in the
first and hung on to double Dearborn 6-3. In
our last garne of the short week, Ultra Mar
beat Sifto Shafters 19-10.
Team reps are urged to fully complete
and submit score sheets within 48 hours.
Sunday game sheets should be submitted
immediately if the result is to annear in the
paper. Goderich Tournament entry forms
can be picked up from Bruce Baker. If
you're going to a tournament, pick up four
or five to distribute. The next league
meeting is Monday. May 27. at 8:00 pm. Br-
ing some feedback on the new Dudley ball
that we're trying out.

Vikings
only loss
comes in
semi-final
The GDCI Vikings played nine games, in
Huron -Perth Conference soccer this season.
They won six games, tied two and lost only
one.
Unfortunately for the Vikings, their one
loss came in the sudden -death semi-final
playoff game played here Thursday after-
noon, and it ended their hopes of capturing
the Huron Perth championship.
The St. Marys Salukis, whom the Vikings
had defeated during the regular season, 3-2,
scored two early goals on the Vikings and
went on to a 4-1 win over the previously
undefeated Vikings. Goderich had finished
first in the regular season, the only
undefeated team in the Conference, with six
wins and two ties while St. Marys was fourth
with five victories, two losses and a tie, but
Thursday, St. Marys was clearly the better
team on the day. They outhustled the Vik-
ings, consistently beating them to the ball.
Mike Pratt scored two goals for he
Salukis while Nick Varvitsiotis ar ay
Hayden scored one apiece.
Todd Graham averted the shutout by scor-
ing for the Vikings late in the game.
Graham, the league's top goal scorer, had 12
goals and scored in every game the Vikings
played.
Vikings
lose 2-0
to Stratford
The GDCI Junior Vikings were defeated in
Huron -Perth soccer semi-final playoff ac-
tion Thursday, 2-0, in Stratford, by the Nor-
thwestern Huskies.
The Vikings, who finished fourth in the
regular schedule, came 'close to upsetting
the Huskies, who were undefeated during
the regular season. The Vikings scored an
apparent goal in the first half but the referee
failed to see the ball enter the net. The
game ended with neither team having
scored.
Ir# the ensuing overtime period, the
Huskies scored two goals to take the victory
and advance to the finals.
The Vikings had an edge in the play dur-
ing regulation time but could not maintain
the pace in the overtime period. .
Ian MacKinnon, Tom Bean and goalie
Gerry Kingsley were the outstanding
players for Coach Carl Ziebarth's Vikings.
