The first day of 'bur
'tour was spent in the
northwestern plains
region around the city of
Erie. Erie is Penn-
sylvania's only port city
and is rich on Heritage
with history dating back
to 1753 and this can be
experienced by visits to
the flagship Niagara,
Cashier's House and the
Erie Historical Museum.
One, might also enjoy a
visit to the Erie.
Playhouse or a visit to
the Mazza Winery for a
tour which shows the en-
tire wine making pro-
cess.
The next morning we
headed south for Pitt-
sburg_ stopping along
the way in Butler Coun-
ty where we had a
fabulous buffet
breakfast at the Old,
Stone House which was
originally built in 1822
and is now fully
restored. We also visited
the Jennings En-
vironmental Centre
located in
Pennsylvania's largest
state park - Moraine
State Park. The Jenn-
ings Centre contains a
number of displays of
very rare flowers and is
a forerunner in a lot of
types of wildlife protec-
tion. From here it is just
a short drive to Pitt-
sburg. The "Steel City"
is a far cry from its
smokey City heritage. It
has shaken its old
stigma and has come in-
to its own and thanks to
strict smoke control
laws its contemporary
skyline soars brightly in-
to breathable air. Gone
are the rows of endless
run down factories
crowding the riverbank
and gone is the image of
an industrial giant.
"Renaissance" is the
word and this rebirth is
apparent not only in the
new buildings and parks
but in its philosophy as
well. It continues to
develop as a friendly
giant whose educational,
cultural and recreational
aspects are as important
as its industry. Above
all, it is a liveable place
and ery proud of it.

as well. There are also
many self guiding tour
routes available at the
Convention and Visitors
Bureau.
I would also recom-
mend visits to the Buhl
Science Centre, the Pitt-
sburg Zoo, Phipps Con-
servatory and the
famous Carnegie In-
stitute. As well the
Cathedral, of Learning at
the university .of Pitt-
sburg, must not be miss-
ed. It is a 42 story
Gothic Stone Tower. En-
circling the first floor
are 18 nationality
classrooms each design-
ed and decorated by ar-
tists and architects from
its respective nation and
it is the only skyscraper -
college building in the
nation. For dining ex-
cellence I would suggest
the Lemont Restaurant
which is atop Mt.
Washington and affords
a breathtaking view of
the city. It is continental
in decor and offers a
very good variety of
French cuisine and
wines.
As our tour drew to a
close we. left .Pittsburg
and headed 1`for the
scenic Allegheny moun-
tains, in the general area
of Uniontown. There are
many scenic attractions
in this territory in-
cluding the "Laurel
Caverns" limestone for-
mations, "Fallingwater"
which is a home design-
ed by. Frank Lloyd
• Wright and is one of his
• most widely acclaimed
works. You should also
tour through Ohiopyle
State Park and witness\
historic Fort Necessity
which was built in 1754
by George Washington
who was at that time on-
ly 21 years old and was
the scene of his only
military defeat.
I have only mentioned
a small portion of what
is available to Penn-
sylvania tourists and
please rest assured that
there is much more to
view. If you would like
further information
