Popular features
are the food booths
Ahhh, yes!
One of the most popular features of
Clinton's leaven Feest are the Dutch
food booths, food from the old country
prepared in the traditional manner. And
the line -Ups for those favorite treats will
be hopefully be shorter with a one third
increase in the size of the food booths at
this year's festival.
A fish market, operated by the men
from the Clinton Christian Reformed
Church, sells smoked eel, trout, whitefish
and the World-famous pickled herring.
Most eat the herring in the traditional
Dutch way, by grabbing the fish by the
tail, throwing your head back and tossing
the delicacy down the hatch.
Herring may not suit everyone's
tastebuds, but other Dutch treats are ir-
resistible to most. Another popular
Klompen Feest booth is run by women
from the Clinton Christian Reformed
Church. Here more than a half dozen
women work non-stop cooking and sell-
ing a special Dutch favorite, Oliebollen.
