Play in the Goderich Men's Ball Hockey League begins Thursday
night. Several of the teams in the six -team league played exhibition
games last Thursday to tune up for the coining season. Here, a

year for the Plattsburgh State Cardinal
hockey team, first year coach Steve Boar's
troops finished fourth in the National
Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA)
Division III hockey championship
tournament, finishing with an overall record
of 26-11. The Cardinals were semi-finalists in
the Eastern college Athletic Conference.

The banner year for the Redbirds was also
highlighted by an 8-3 victory over eventual
national champion Rochester Institute of
Teehnoldgy, in the Cardinal Coca-Cola
Classic Tournament finals, and four wins
Over . arch -rival Oswego State during the
season, including the SUNYAC
championship game.
Stahl was the most valuable player for the
Listowel Cyclones in 1981-82. He is the son of
Mr. Paul Stahl, a member of the 1964
Canadian Olympic hockey team.
YBCbow1ers receive awards at year-end banquet
On Thursday, Apr. 24, 45 Bantam bowlers,
each brought a parent to their end of the
season banquet, held at Knox Presbyterian
Church. These bowlers are 7 - 11 years of
age.
Of the 12 teams -that bowled all year two
were tied at the end of the regular schedule
for top position. Lane Busters and Bowling
Bombs members were awarded trophies for
their efforts all year: Team membeps were
Denis Lassaline, Niki Machan, Jeff Squire,
Patrick Glazier, Jamie Dick, Marc Melick,

Individual awards were given to Kevin
Fritzley and Julie Fisher for acquiring the
high averages of 145 and 139 respectfully.
For the high two games award, Jason
Clarke, with 370 and Jackie Gllders, with
361, captured that spot. High single was
Marc Meliok's 227 and Niki Machan with
204.
"The most improved bowler plaque was
reached by Geoffrey Knights who improved
his average by 34 points through the season.
Bowlers -of -the -year awards were
presented to Daniel Brindley and Julie
Fisher, for their enthusiasm and ability at
the lane.
In four weeks of playoffs the Corner Pins
bowled their way to victory. Team members
are Jason Clarke, Andrew McCalluin, Mark
Armstrong and Sherry Suplat.
. MONDAY NIGHT MEN .
Another season has passed and a new win-
ner has been declared in Monday nights' ac-
tion: Murphys Landing came through with
a big w.iiahhis•.year finishing.71,...points ahead
of the rest of the pack; Congratulations are
due to the following team members:- Art
Burt, Al McDonald, Tony Bedard, Brian
Reeves, Ken Johnston, Bob Atkinson, Steve
Allen.
Art Burt also finishedwith the high
average for the league with a very im-
pressive 250 plus. - t
The league was a great success this year
and we hope to have everyone back to con-
tinue the competition next year.
MONDAY NIGHT LADIES
The playoffs are over and Winners
declared. Individual prize winners are: Del
Geddes, high average 219; Marilyn Ban-
nister, high triple 756; Brenda Dineen, high
single 346; and Joan,Burleigh, the most im-
proved bowler. Joan brought her average up
30 points during the season.
Shirt's Girls were the winners of the A
division with a total of 7184 pins. High rollers
for the "Girls" were: Mary Lynne Telford,
193; Joyce Pettus, 213; Barb Ahnasi, 604;
Bev Whetstone 607, Shirley Kennedy, 655;
Dorothy Bourdeau, 733.
Auleen's Angels moved into second place
with the help of Marj Miller, 203; Brenda Di-
neen, 204; and Karen Mero 232; Auleen
Theriault rolled a 401, the highest game roll-
ed by any lady in any league this year.
"Congratulations Auleen."
The Marionettes came .a close third and
were led by Betty Fisher, 216; Kit Smith,
216; Ila Williams, 218 and Marilyn Ban-
nister, 608 triple.
The winner of the "B" division was not
settled until the last ball was thrown. This
truly was a "cliff -hanger" and the Blazers
won it by one single pin. High rollers for the
Blazers were: Linda Brown 194; Lorraine
Jones, 209; Fran Fae, 224; Joyce Hamilton,
575 triple.
The No Names ended up in second place,,
only,, one pin behind the winners..: Good
games rolled by June I .ourite,M 180; Dona
Duncan, 189; Jean Mundle 197 and Del Ged-
des, 639 triple.
Trouble came in third and had some good
games rolled by: Verna Jacksien; Karen:.
Walker, 255, Audrey Brindley had a good
night 232, 252, 635 triple: -
The Oldtimers had a real "fun" night and
came in fourth. High rollers were: Barb
Meriam, 173; Nancy White, • 205; Melba
Maillet, 221; Kris Miller, 609 triple.
The season has come to an end for another
year and we would like to thank Harry and
Steve Little of the Little Bowl. We would
also like to thank the Signal Star for
publishing the bowling results each week.
Parent places first in race
Local BMX rakers picked up trophies
again this Sunday at the weekly racing
competitions at Park Valley, near Gran-
ton.
Bruce Parent placed first in the 15 -year-
old
Expert class and second in the 14-15
cruiser class. Jeff Boyce came second in 14
year-old Expert class. Brian Wiebe won
first place in 14 -year-old Novice.
Mork Collins placed second in 14 -year-
old Beginner competition and Shawn
Talbot moved up to 12 -year-old Novice
class and captured first place.
