A letter of explanation will be sent to Alton explaining the situation at Yield Street1 branching off of Nelson Street to Hamilton Street at the corner of Victoria Street and Nelson Street. The committee also turned down a sug- gestion by the traffic study for an island in the area. Chain link fence Council passed a motion to tolerate the encroachment of a concrete pad and chain link fence at Bennett Street, lot 1, plan 484. Sidewalk request A sidewalk on Britannia Road will be built in 1985 if funds are left over after the construction oftop priority sidewalks' this year, the works committee decided after a letter from James Klope. If no funds are available, the sidewalk will be built in subsequent years. Sick leave Accumulative sick leave will be paid to seven town employees other thayolice according to the Municipal Act with the necessary deductions The approximate amount is $28,000 based on 50 per cent of their present salary times the number of days accumulated. Sell carnations Council gave permission to Diane Melick to canvass Goderich on May 10 and 11 for the MS Society of Canada when she will be selling carnations, the official flower of the Society. Quotation approved A quotation by Moffatt and Powell for $10,213.87 for materials for the board- walk was approved by council subject to approval by the Commissioner of Works. Two other quotations included $10,976.60 by Cashway and $11,993.63 by John Jef- fery and Son. • Industrial wastes A letter from the Ontario Waste Management Corporation offering more information on industrial hazardous wastes was referred by council to. the works committee and the: emergency planning committee. Accounting system Council received a letter from the Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Hous- ing approving the application for a com- puterized accounting system under Municipal Action '85. The grant for the external implementation costs totals $20,190. Lunch bus A request by Mr. and Mrs. Bill Brown, Sr. to operate a Mobile Lunch Bus in Goderich was referred to the parks and waterfront committee. Letters received Letters from Huron -Bruce M.P. Mur- ray Cardiff and Minister of National Revenue, Perrin Beatty were received by council concerning North Castle Marine Ltd. Cardiff said a letter from Minister of Regional and Industrial Ex- pansion, Sinclair Stevens outlined the Federal Business Development Bank and the Small Businesses Loans Act as possible sources for funding. It also said an officer from the department's regional office would contact the com- pany to review their situation and ex- plore their options. $50 donation Council donated $50 to the Canadian Hemophilia Society after a letter was received asking for support. $40 donation Council also donated $40 to the Hur;,n County Road Superintendents Associa- tion after a request for support. Fish fry approved The Goderich Figure Skating Club was given permission to use Harbor Park on Saturday, June 22 for a fish fry. Windsurfing regatta Council gave permission to Tory McDonald for a Windsurfing regatta at St. Christopher's Beach on June 1 and 2 which is expected to have between 50 to 70 racers from across Southwestern On- tario. Land sale Council passed a by -1 iw authorizing - the sale of part of lot 107, Maitland Con- cession, Goderich Township, now in the Town of Goderich to Lakeland Industrial MRO Sales Inc. for $20,000 per acre for a half acre. Health day will officially proc4aim-May 1- -, Canada Health Day under the condition that Alexandra Marine and General Hospital pays for advertisements in the newspaper. The day is designed to pro- mote awareness of health issues by the general public and the health sector. -Building-permits Council gave permission to Coopers and Lybrand Limited for building per- mits on lots 18, 19, 20 and 21 of plan 497 since servicing was completed for the lots. GODERICH 524-2113 r; The director of the Uuten-Pet'th Roman Catholic separate schoolboard expects legislation extending funding to Catholic high schools will gal ahead once the provin- cial legislatuca resines • "I wouldn't expect any -significant change in plans," said William Eckert inaMonday morning Interview, The interview' followed premier -elect Frank Miller's comments Friday that he would reconsider the question of extending full funding to Catholic school. "If he (Miller) imam he Is thinking -Of go- ing back on the promise of full funding - I find that quite surprising. If it means his party will review, along with the other two parties, that is understandable," com- mented Mr. Eckert. He noted both the Liberal and New Democratic partiessupport full funding. "We are proceeding with our plans," said Mr. Eckert. The board will, receive the report of its secondary school planning committee May, ° 13 and will make a decision May 21. The ten- tative plan calls for a Catholic high school to co -exist in Central Huron Secondary School in Clinton for Huron students. In Perth, the. plan calls for St. Michael's school, now a Grade 7 and 8 school, to be phased -in as a high school. Eckert also noted that meetings between the Catholic school board and the Huron and Perth public school boards have been set up and will be gone ahead with. "I can't imagine it (funding) not going forward," said Mr. Eckert. WI plans Tweedsmuir Tea on May 13 By Blanche Deeves HOLMESVILLE - The Goderich Township Women's Institute are having a Tweedsmuir Tea on Monday, May 13 at 2 p.m. in the Community Centre in Holmesville. Everyone is welcome, especially chartered members. There will be a display of a collection of Mary Jean Baer dolls and thimbles, as well as a number of items of interest. An old time tea lunch to be served. The Enterprising Seniors Will meet May 16 in the Community Centre in Holmesville at 8 p.m. Ladies bring recipes.
