Kinette
Balloon Day
raises over
$1000 for CF
The Kinette Balloon Days held on The
Square and at Suncoast Mall on Saturday
rais.ed $1000 for Cystic Fibrosis, the
highest total in six years despite the rainy
weather conditions.
"People just stood there i the pouring
rain to watch the balloons go. It was a
super day and the crowds were good all
day. I'm just thrilled," says Adele Dren-
nan, one of the organizers.
The total was raised by selling ice
cream, handing out balloons and asking
for donations by 15 clowns on The Square
and six at Suncoast Mall. Close to 40
volunteers helpeu with the day. The
average total in the last five years was
$200 to $300.
"If the sun had been shining, who knows
what we could have made?" says Dren-
nan. "This year we sent out letters to
businessmen and they helped a lot. We also
had a lot of help from people who aren't in-
volved In Kinettes or the Kinsmen."
At 3,p..m.; Mayor Eileen Palmer and 10 -
year -old Robbie Wade let off the balloons.
The big clump of balloons came doWn in a
bush near Carlow. "I guess the rain drove
them down,/' she says.
