Do you, have a sunny disposition and feel comfortable when surrounded by warm shades of yellow and gold? Or do you feel atyour best in winter, when, strong blacks and whites flatter your mood and enhance the way you look and. act? Everyone has a distinct color personality - as characteristic and revealing as handwriting and fingerprints. Clare Revelli, author of the bestselling "Color and You",has developed unique seasonal color paettes for use in home decorating. "These colors are exciting because they offer a new way to select the colors that are most in tune with our natures," says Debby Brown, Director of Home Furnishings. Seasonal Color Theory, already a success with fashion and cosmetic designers, is the principle that each of us embodies one of the four seasons. These characteristics are evident in our skin tones, hair, and eye colors. "For example, says Ms. Revelli, "a summer type tends to have translucent skin with a hint of pink in the face. Summer's eyes range from blue to soft gray or aqua and summer's hair ranges frota smokoy, blond oxo dark taupe. Understanding the theory will • help eliminate decorating guesswork and fusion." She adds,, "You'll make fewer mistakes and have fewer doubts about how colors work together.. It simplifies y+odr life. Seasonal' Color Theory, according to Ms. Ravelli, is the key td making confident decisions about the mos$ emotional choice in decorating-- which color to choose. Whether you're a spring, summer, autumn or winter personality, you will find that you are intuitively drawn to the colors that are:right for you, and these colors will be as complimentary as the clothes you wear. "People naturally select\tlie right colors for themselves," claims Ms. Brown. "For example, spring people choose the colors of nature in bloom to project brightness, clarity and warm sunny freshness in their homes. Summer people, who tend to have a blue undertone to their skins, select fresh; breezy pastels to draw on the cool airiness of summer." She adds, "Autumn people are especially strong and warm and tend to .decorate with sunny, glowing reds that add vitality to their designing schelnes. A deep adnrural blue on walk, wjll create a cozy effect, as dark colors tighten space. Jn northern climates where long winter days can be bleak, use bright, dear, vivid colors to counteract the grayness. In southern regions where the sun tends to bleach everything, use soft neutrals, or lots of white -- the colors of the beach or desert. W hen you choose a color, paint a section of a room that'sout of general view and look at it periodically for a couple of weeks. The change in lighting will alter the color's 'appearance throughout the day. This is one way to decide on the color that's right for you. 6EBefOre you send it, seal it" jAs you read this, 5 million Canadians are trying to catch their breath. 300,000 Canadian children are suffering with asthma and the cost of treating lung disease is skyrocketing.
