Winning pries no fent
for Clinton area gird
Winning first place ribbons and success in
general isn't anything new to Gwen Holland._
Miss Holland competes in a number of flower
shows in the Clinton area and last year took
the most number of points in thesenior class
And at 16 years of age Miss Holland is the
youngest competitor in the senior class.
Irl the world of flower competitions the
Rose show in June and the Flower show in
August are the biggest events for area
competitors. Last year Miss Holland won the
Middleton Memorial Award. for an arrange;
ment of gladiolas and 50 dollars in prize
money. She has won a.nurrlber of ribbons and
Prizes for other flower arrangements.
Miss Holland first became interested in
flowers when as a child she was babysat by
Margaret Sloman of Clinton, who was then
the leader of the Junior Gardeners. In
addition Miss Holland learned the technique
of flower arranging from watching her Aunt
Viola, who has been showing towers for
years.
