As this is my final column, 1 would like to
thank those who took the time to let me
know of their company and community ac-
tivities. In these progressing times it is too
bad these smaller villages are falling by the
wayside in terms of disinterest and lack of
togetherness in the community.

Values ed:
program
A values education program for grade six
students, developed in co-operation with the • -
Ministry of the Solicitor -General, will be
available to all Ontario School hoards,
Education Minister Keith Norton said last
week.
Called Values, Influences, and Peers. the
program seeks to encourage positive social
behaviour by increasing a student's
awareness and building 'their confidence
and self esteem. It deals"with peer pressure,
decision making, the dangers of drugs, van-
dalism and destructive behaviour, shoplif-
ting, and youth and the law.
Speaking to students graduating from the
VIP program at Glenburnie East School
near Kingston, Mr. Norton said that a new
curriculum support' document for the pro- -.
gram is being sent to all school boards in the
province. He. told the students that what
they learned in the VIP program will stand
-t era-in.-goodsteari for thesest of their lives.
The program, which is optional for school
boards, teams a teacher and a local police
officer as part of the regular school cur-
riculum. Prior to the introduction of the pro-
gram by arboard the teachers and thc'police
officers selected to conductit undergo an ex-
tensive orientation and training seminar,
Mr. Norton said that the program, which
was run on a pilot basis by 70 school boards
during the past year, has been en-
thusiastically -received ,hy parents,
teachers, police, and pupils.
