Board transfers
two elementary
school principals
BY STEPHANIE LEVESQUE
Two principals in the Huron -Perth Roman
Catholic Separate School Board will be
transferred to other schools, but the school
board still needs two more principals.
St. Mary's Separate School in Hesson
principal Jim Sterner will be transferred to
Sacred Heart Separate School in Wingham
this September. Sacred Heart principal
Mary O'Malley is retiring this summer.
St. Columban Separate School principal
Joe MacDonald will take Mr. Steffler's posi-
tion at the Hesson school.
This will leave a vacancy at St. Columban.
Also a principal is still needed to replace
Gaeten Blanchette who has gone from being
principal at St. Boniface Separate School in
Zurich to superintendent of education at the
board office.
HURONVIEW - Marie Flynn with the toe -
tapping rhythm of the Huron Strings kept
' the pace moving, as they played a number
of lilting tunes ad and new. Some residents
got up for a whirl around the hall, and it was
good to see how much they were enjoying it.
One volunteer Mike Botermans, has been
a .great asset to Huronview. Mike 20, has a
bubbling personality and a warm radiant
quality, that seems to charm the residents
young and old. There isn't anyone in the
home, who hasn't had the chance of being in
his company which brings cheer to help
brighten their day.
At noon on March 26, men and women
Want no
parking signs in
front of school
The Huron -Perth Roman Catholic
Separate School Board will ask the provin-
cial ministry of transportation and com-
munications for "no parking" signs in front -
of St. Columban Separate School.
Trustee Dave Durand said in the winter
there are high snow banks in front of the
school which fronts on to Highway 8. Also,
transport trucks converge in the area to
visit a restaurant located across the
highway from the school.
"The only way to stop the trucks from
parking in front of the school is to put up no
parking signs," said Mr. Durand.
"We are concerned for the safety of our
children," said trustee Ron Murray.
He added the school board doesn't want to
hurt the restaurant's business.
Trustees said the matter was brought to
the . board's attention by St. Columban
school principal Joe MacDonald. It was also
noted that at one time, a driver of a car
travelling on the highway had to stop to
direct a school bus out of the school parking
lot. Trucks blocked the bus driver's vision.
TID BITS
from 1st North enjoyed a meal 01 Dlxle Lee
fish and salad. Everyone remarked that it
was a real treat. As the days go by,
residents from the other floors will have
their turn. Thanks goes to the staff who
organize these extra events.
Mildred and Ross Merrill were at Huron -
view on March 27 to show their slides of the
Yukon.
Having fully recovered from his surgery,
Ed Stiles was back again playing everyone's
favorite pieces on the chapel organ. Some
residents went to Clinton for their weekly
stint at bowling.
On Friday afternoon Larry and Darlene
Howe and son Rob of St. Catharines
presented an inspirational program u,
sacred gong and music. While singing,
Larry @nd Darlene accompanied
themselves on guitars. The audience was
quite impressed with the sincerity of this
young couple and whose testimony: warmed
the hearts of everyone. Darlene is a grand-
daughter of Huronview resident Mabel
Scott. Darlene claims to have inherited her
singing voice from Mabel, and that could
very well be. We wish to thank Larry and
Darlene who through their message of song,
bestowed upon us their rich blessing.
Sunday afternoon entertainment was
presented by the Seaforth Legion Branch
156. President Mr. Henry Ziler introduced
the performers. Jim Rose played a medley
of lively tunes play,ed on the piano. The Md-
Quaid sisters of Seaforth come frolm a farm
ly of talented musicians and very popular
_ or#es. Madonna„ .and Ann Marie whg,:are,
ceptional violinists, their numbers brilliant-
ly played, and accompanied at the piano by
their mother Mrs. McQuaid; who is an ac-
complished musician. The highlight or the
program was the unique performance of the
girls doing a step -dance routine; while play-
ing their violins. Mabel Scott thanked the
guests.
To the family of the late Mrs. Alma Davis,
sympathy is expressed.
