The Goderich Rotary Club held an auction at Maitland Country
Club Sunday that featured items from many countries around the
world., Organizer Mike Rodges holds up a picture donated by a club

Hand-crafted international artifacts were
among over 100 items offered at the
Goderich ' Rotary Club's auction to raise
money for the parent group's Haiti project. •
Local Rotary Club Members and guests
bid more than $1,800 at the urging -of auc-
tioneers Jack Riddell and his brother Don at
the Maitland Golf and Country Club Sunday.
T money .will be used to help finance a
five, $2.5 million water project in Haiti,
sponsored by over 50. Rotary Clubs, in the
district. .
Area clubs have been active in Haiti for
several years and- district representative
Dr. Ian Irwin told the group that 45 projects
have been completed in the country over the
years at a cost of $1.5 million.
But the district, which encompasses clubs
from Thornbury to London and east to Flint,
Michigan recently received approval to pro-
ceed with the $2.5 million water project that
calls for the constructions of 400 water wells
and 2,000 outhouses.
While clubs in the district will be con-
tributing to the water project, the Canadian
International Development Agency (CIDA)
has guaranteed the project and will help
subsidize the cost.
"There is a great need for water there and
the island neell0 a• boost," Irwin said. "It
will be an ongoing project."
Many Rotary Clubs from around the
world donated items for auction at Sunday's
event including clubs in Haiti, France, and
England.
