Irish Settlement here in Huron
The March meeting of the Dungannon
U.C.W. was held at the 'home of Ruth
MacKenzie with a good attendance. The Bi-
ble Study was taken by Bessie McNee with
the theme being, The Lord is my Shepherd.
Bessie read, The Basque Shepherd
Speaks. A Basque shepherd is one whose job
has gone back through many, many genera-
tions. This piece was written by James
Wallace of Nevada and it explained the
meaning of each line of the 23rd Psalm in
detail. Another reading was another version
of the 23rd Psalm called The Pilot Psalm.
The program on Stewardship was taken
by Helen Lawson. A skit entitled what's
Your Treasure was enacted by Karen
Roberts, Ruth MacKenzie and .Willetta
McWhinney. A question and answer period
followed. Helen read, The Sugar Bowl, a
piece telling about finances and how they us-
ed to be handled by the woman of the
household.
The president, Nora Saunders, conducted
the business part°of the meeting. A motion
was made and carried that $5.50 per plate
plus tax be charged for dinners catered,
with extra charged for extra requests.
The U.C.W. ladies have quilted four crib
quilts during the winter and these are to be
given to Wingham Hospital.
Plans for the Thankoffering meeting to be
held in April were discussed. The
secretary's report and treasurer's report
were read, also correspondence.
Dungannon U.C.W.'s sister church for
1985 is Benmiller.
Florence Berry gave a very good reading
on The Irish Settlement, here in Huron.
County as the feature for March. The roll
call was answered by everyone wearing
something green. A delicious lunch was
served by • Emily , Drennan and Ruth
MacKenzie. .

tures on audio tape cassettes and accompa-
nying notes. Assignments are graded and
returnedwith comments, allowing von to
assess yourrogress.
All it requires is motivation and self-
discipline. Given these criteria you may
successfully complete either the Ontario
Diplomain Agriculture or the Ontario i

Tender approved
A tender of $9,045.78 by Goderich
Plymouth for the Public Works pick-up
truck was approved by council subject to
approval by the Commissioner of Works.
Other tenders included $9,628.98 by Jim
Hayter Chev. Olds and $9,617.16 by
Mei lee Pontiac li•uick"LAd.
$50 donations
Donations made by council at the Mar.
18 meeting include $50 to the Easter Seal
Campaign. and $50 to the Canadian
Diabetes Assoeiation.
• Team of horses
An inquiry by Linda Richardson offer-
ing a team of matched horses and an an-
tique vehicle for touring Godericho
tourists to points of interest in town was
referred to Robin Stuart, the new
Tourist/Industrial Prornotor for
Goderich. A by-law was also passed on
Mai. la entering into an agreement with
Mr. Stuart for his new position.
Becker agreement
Though the necessary letter of credit
had not "been received by the Mar. 18
meeting of council from Becker Milk Co.,
council passed the oy-law authorizing the

.agreement with the company. The third
reading was conditional upon receiving
the letter of credit.
Street lighting
After a request by Rob Sherwood that
council make a commitment to the
Christmas street lighting on the Square,
. for the next three or four years, counctf
decided it could not indebt any incoming
council. It will recommend the incoming
council for 1986 consider an expenditure
foyehristmas lighting at budget time.
Contracting tender
Council accepted a tender by Lavis
Contracting Co. Ltd. of $329,898.40 for
Victoria Street Connecting Link
Reconstruction subject to M.T.C. ap-
proval at its meeting of Mar. 11. The
tender was the lowest of three with the
others being $347,343.40 by Cottrill Fuels
and- Paving -Limited, Kincardine and
$457,998.82 by Towland •(London) 1970
Limited, London.
Lawyers meet
Council was informed at its Mar. 11
meeting that. the Ontario Lawyers
- Association will be convening in
Goderich for a meeting on the weekend of
Sept. 28 and 29.
