"But I kept thetie,"
He said former Premier Bill Davis had
done "the only intelligent thing under the•
circumstances-. he resigned."
In what was an obvious warmup to the
election campaign, Peterson rallied his
troops with comments like, "I'm looking ,
forward to going toe -to -toe with Mr. Miller,"
and, "After 41 years, a great deal of MOSS
has grown on the.big bluelnachine."
At times, Peterson was almost theatrieal
in his condemnation of the provincial
Tories, the new premier and his cabinet.
flle chided Mi1er for campaigning without
calling an election. "The premier has
chosen to do nothing."
The Liberals -no have the "greatest
political opportunity in41-yeam," he said:
Peterson said the Ontario Conservatives
chose to go back 20 years when they elected
Miller as leader,
Miller is known for two things, raising
taxes and attempting to close hospitals, said
Peterson.
When Miller was minister of health, he at-
tempted to close some smaller hospitals in-
cluding the Clinton, Chesley and Durham
hospitals. But the hospitals remained open.
Peterson quoted Miller on the hospital

way to go. I still think I was doing the right
thing.'
And concerning taxes, Peterson said,
"Every single tax in this province was q -
ed byFrank Miller."
Miller was the provincial treasurer prior
to being chosen leader.
"He's taxed everything... potato chips,
hamburgers, flour, puppies, guppies...
everything that moves has been taxed by
his man, saia
eLeibtni.
"He also chided -Miller and the Tories for
creating the largest cabinet in the history of
the province. Miller chose 33 members after
promising to cut the cabinet by six. ...
FIGHT FOR FARMS
The Liberal leader since 1982, Peterson
addresses two local issues in his swing
through the Huron -Bruce riding.
Peterson promised to "fight for the
agricultural conununity." He said he had
talked to many farmers in the area.

Learning to ice skate is like to learning to
ride a bicycle. Once you do learn, you never
forget. Ernie Little of Goderich is proof of
this. He will be 81 -years -old in June and he
hasn't hung up his blades. In fact, you could
see him skating around at the Goderich
arena last week. At age 75 he skated on a
pair of 125 -year-old wooden skates which he
still owns. The skates he uses today are ony
45 -years -old, but they are second hand.
After 15 years of corresponding, Gail Cur-
rie of Goderich met her pen pal, Kitty Zim-
merman of Germany, on the weekend. Gail
and Kitty, who is Japanese, began cor-
responding through pen -pals International.
Kitty also had another pen pal whom she
married. Fritz Zimmerman of East Ger-
many and he worked for Lufthansa air lines.
On a stopover in Tokyo Fritz stopped over
and three days later they were married.

of entering the county nursing plan spon-
sored by the province. Navigation was open-
ed on March 28 when the Imperial Oil tanker

organized in preparation for the eighth Vic-

Last year a lady fell on,a piece of orange
peel and broke an arm, and this week
orange and banana peels were spread over
the sidewalks. Surely young and old could
take the trouble to throw the skins on the
road, and not endanger life and limb by
carelessly dropping them on the walk. The
town has wisely deeded to compel people to
