Neighbour's seed
is' no bargain ..•
from page Ha
Because the neighbour's seed has not been
certified under the auspices of the Canada
Seeds Ad, John has no recourse should a
problem occur.
Certified seed is backed - by Agriculture
Canada Inspectors who follow the seed of
every crop and variety from its origin through
to final packaging for sale. It is inspected in
the seed growers field, and after it has been
cleaned and bagged. The procedures involved
in meeting Certified seed standards ensure
the availability of high quality seed.
A large part of eventual yield is determined
during the germination and emergence ..
stages. Why try to shave a few dollars from
production costs by planting `over -the -fence'
seed instead of Certified? Quality seed of the
best varieties is a key ingredient in setting the
stage for bigger, more profitable yields.
