Durham edges Acton minor 6-5 to advance
BY EVEIXN RESCHNER
Durham mad a dramatic
comeback from a 4-0 deficit to
defeat Acton Minor 6-5, in a
sudden -death ' overtime
period, to advance to the C
division final consolation
championship round.
Keith MacMillan figured in
the scoring of every Durham
goal, netting four and
assisting on the other two. •
however he miscalculated on
the height and it fell in.
Acton's first power -play
was weak for the first minute,
as the Durham squad invaded
the Acton zone almost
making it a tie with a short-
handed goal. A durham right
winger released a quick wrist
shot which Acton Goalie Brad
Fritzley gloved and dropped
into a maze of players before
covering the puck.
er Urharifs--einse-tall,
Acton rushed to the other end,
deking the defense and
sliding. the puck behind
Scales.
With Stacey Becker in the
penalty box for roughing,
Wayne Bousfield scored a
managing to keep Durham off
the scoreboard for almost on -
and -a -half period of play. The
• first Acton goal was an
unassisted effort by Eric
Heagle. Durham netminder,
Calvin Scales attempted to
stop the high -flying puck,
short-handed goal to give
Acton a 3-0 lead to finish out
the first period,
Acton continued to
dominate teh action giving
them an impressive 4-0 lead,
when Bousfield, carrying the
puck in, kept gpod control of
both the puck and his stick
poked it in beside the goal
post on the short side.
After being down 4-0
Dprham forged ahead,
sturing five -goals -to -
lead momentarily, as Acton
forced a sudden -death
overtime period where
Durham continued to
dominate, keeping the
majority of action in the
Acton zone and finally
scorik after three minutes.
Both teams permitted their
oponents to stand in the slot
providing abundant scoring
opportunities resulting in the
high score.
Durham's go-ahead goal
was a beautiful effort by
MacMillan, picking up the
puck at centre to begin the
rush, skating around the
almost stationary defense
and smoking a backhand shot
tolle4hee tar et as Acton
goaltender Frit ey reac e a
fraction too late.
