years because of the generous sponsorship
and donations of local businesses and in-
dustries.
Many thanks to our sponsors, door prize
donors, and helpers for making the St. Pat's
a great bonspiel again this year.

The . 12th annual St. Patrick's Day
Bonspiel was held at the Maitland Country
Club on March 15 and 16, 1985.
The decorations and special events for the
bonspiel were based on an Irish theme, and
there was plenty of the "wearin' of the
green" all weekend.
Participating curlers came from as far
away as Kincardine, Ilderton, Sarnia,
Toronto and Orangeville to team up with our
own Goderich members for this highlight of
the curling season.
The fun began Friday evening with 2
draws of curling, and a social time and
lunch served after in the upstairs lounge.
Saturday morning. dawned, and the curlers
were treated to "moose -milk" and muffins
before the game. After lunch. therewas nne
more game for each draw, and then the curl-
ing shoes were replaced with dancing shoes
for the wind-up dinner and dance Saturday
night, The lunch and dinner on Saturday

tion.of the Maitland.

The heat Is on, and already Levels 2 and 3
are at the finals stage in the Chess Club'a
1985 playoff competitions. "
Level 2 is the most advanced, as semi-
finals winners 'Doug Brindley and Brian
Phillips have played the first of their
championship games. Brian scored the
victory, but Doug may bounce back to tie
things up next week. This will be a familiar
scene to Brian, whose three games with
Owen Moriarty teetered back and forth,
before Brian won overall.
Gerry Ross emulated. Doug's win over
Eric Hallam, by beating Dennis Luiting in
two straight games. This means that
Robert Nau and Gerry compete against
each other for the Level 3 trophy.
The only action seen in Level 1 was
Walter Gottschalk's vengeful win over
Mark Maurer. Their position now stands at
one game apiece; so the next game will be
the decides. Level 4 players remained idle,
but will 'lock horns' next week.
