Administrators
The Huron County Administrators met
with representatives of Conestoga College to
discuss courses available regarding Micro-
computer applications. It was felt that the
intial step was to have the Administrators of
the five ' hospitals take the course to
familiarize themselves with the process.
Conestoga College representatives will con;
duct the course on a 3 -hour per week basis
(each Wednesday morning) for 12 weeks
beginning in April 1985. We would then hope
to involve other staff in the five area
hospitals in a program to start in the fall.
We are looking into leasing a computer for
the duration of the course in each of the
hospitals and a proposal is expected shortly
from Conestoga College in this regard.
Staff thanks board
The nursing staff thanked the hospital
board for their generosity in providing
Christmas and New Years meals for staff
who were required to work over the
holidays.

Board to hire affirmative
co-ordinator this year
BY STEPHANIE LEVESQUE
The Huron County Board of Education
will hire a half-time affirmative action co-
ordinator for the 1985-86 school year.
The school board approved this measure
at its March 6 meeting in keeping with a
ministry of education program in support of
affirmative action for female employees.
The ministry will reimburse a school
board up to 75 per cent of the cost of employ=
ing a co-ordinator to a maximum of $20,000
in tb fuses year and$18;000 Intl* Second.
In its decision to hire a co-ordinator at
about $28,695 - which will cost the local tax-
payers a ost $8,000 -• the school board
made a >icy sta`teinent. " •
This statement announces the board's in-
tention to undertake an affirmative action
program for its female employees "to diver-
sify their occupational distribution within
the system and to eliminate any identified
barriers to their employment opportunity".
It will be the co-ordinator's job to collect
information on employment policies and
procedures, receive comments from all
employee groups and, by February of next
year, file a report with recommendations to
the school board and the ministry.
Trustee Frank Falconer said he saw no
- need to hire -a teacher -for -this- position when
it is basically a secretarial job.
Director of education Bob Allan said while
there are some secretarial duties, the role
calls for someone with professional status
because besides the data collection there is
a need to evaluate the data and make
recommendations.
