News
BY BARRY PAGE
With the regular games now behind them,
the Goderich Chess Club members are gear-
ing up for this year's playoff matches.
Interestingly enough, there were no posi-
tion changes in both Level 1 and Level 4;
although Mark Maurer and John Crawford
did gain an extra foothold inthe standings.
Doug Brindley ended the regular season
at the top of Level 2, having overtaken Brian
Philips. Doug's namesake, Brian, occupies
No. 1 spot in Level 3 ,with a commanding
lead.
The playoffs will begin with the first and
third, and second and fourth contestants
playing against each other. As usual, the
best of three games will decide the winner.
Will there be upsets? Who will dominate
the playoffs? The games will take their toll;
sometimes in an awesome, sometimes in a
predictable way. Next week's report should
indicate the results of an interesting first
round.
