Mothers are moire fashion conscious
The single biggest difference between to-
day's mothers of the bride and groom and•
their yesteryear counterparts is the fact
that they are infinitely more fashion con-
scious, slimmer and younger looking than
before.
Designers and manufacturers of bridal
wear have finally realized that there is a
need for attractive, appropriate garments
for members of the wedding party - besides
the bride. Selections in Metro stores are
much better than hi previous years. This
year's favourite colours are the romantic
shades of mauve, violet, hyacinth, dusty
rose, peach, pale gray, cobalt and
aubergine.
Many mothers prefer either two piece
gowns or dresses with cover up jackets or
sheer overblouses that tend to camouflage a
thickening waist (one of the few figure pro-
blems mothers of the bride and groom may
have).
They're following the brides and are
selecting long dresses in preference to
short.
The dresses are more formal than they us-
ed to be, often trimmed with embroidery,
beading ace or ruffles. Favourite fabrics
are taffeta, silk, matte satin, moire and silly'

Many mothers choose dresses they will be.
ablate wear to other formal events. If these
arelow cut or particularly, ornate, it's essen-
tial • that they have a cover up jacket,
caplet, or blouson, since it's inappropriate
to wear.a very decollete or glittery gown to a
wedding.
There. are, of course, a number of dos and
don'ts for the mother of the bride or groom.
She should select lung sleeves, which are
more• flattering to older arms, and
preferably a high neckline. She should avoid
overly bright or harsh colours, and never
select strong prints. Mothers should also
consider the rest of the bridal party before
making a final decision to make sure that
their selection is compatible with other col-
ours.
It's a good idea to get professional advice
on hair and makeup, even for women unac-
customed to having their hair and makeup
professionally done, since the single biggest
mistake mothers tend to make is to sudden-
ly go overboard.
