Midgets bounced from league playoffs
The. Dorchester Midgets won the
Shamrock. League Midget B-side playoff
tournament, held in Goderich on Saturday.
The Goderich Legion Midgets were
eliminated from the single -knockout affair
after their first game, an 8-2 loss to Port
Stanley.
Goderich stayed with Port Stanley until
midway through the second period. After
allnwine two first-nerind analc the 1noa1
Midgets came back with two of their own
in the second frame. It was all Port
Stanley from then on, as the visitors
scored six unanswered goals. Scoring for
Goderich in the game were Scott Garrow
and Shawn Larder, with one goal each.
Kevin Talbot pitched in with two assists
and Tom Bean drew one.
Dorchester defeated Port Stanley in the
tournament final, 4-2, scoring four straight
goals after Port Stanley scored the open-
ing goal, in the first period. Port Stanley
scored once more in the second, to' pull
within - two. However, a scoreless third
frame sealed Port Stanley's fate.
Dorchester also beat Lucan 5-4 on the
way to the finals.
The Legion Midgets\vill play in a tourna-
ment in Wingham, during the March
,break.
Redmond shuts out Lucknow in Atom B game
each added a pair of assists, while Todd
Papple, Mark Phillips and Jason Cook all
drew one assist each.
The game was taped for broadcast by a
local cable company, and aired February
22, giving the boys a chance to see
themselves play on television.
The team will be playing London this
week, in OMHA playoffs and on Sunday
March 3, in the Shamrock League playoffs
at Parkhill.
The Goderich Atom A's have been
„waiting since February 6, to continue their
playoffs. They will meet a team from Lon-
don, who should have been ready to play
by February 17, but did not complete their
series until February 23.
The Goderich Atoms downed Clinton 6-3,
m exhibition hockey played here February
21.
Clinton took an early lead, scoring less
than four minutes into the first period, but
Goderich returned with five straight goals,
to end the second period up 5-1. Clinton had
a 2-1 scoring edge in the third frame, but it
wasn't enough to turn the tide.
Chad Papple scored twice for Goderich,
while Jared Whalen, Jason Jeffrey, Donny
Rivers and Paul Wheeler each scored

The Goderich Atom B's pounded
Lucknow here, February 18, blanking the
visitors 7-0. "
James McDade and Jason Lajeunese led
Goderich scorers with two goals each. An-
drew Scott, Drew MacAuley and Ryan
Famish each scored a goal and one assist
and Dave Edward , Bryan Lamb and Jeff
Rau each assistedon one goal.
Jamie Redmond recorded the shutout in
the Goderich net.
In Atom Houseleague action, the White
team defeated the Blue Squad in a 10-5
shootout, on February 22.
David Boyce led the Whiteteam with
five goals and two assists. Jeff Kent pop-
ped in a hat trickfor the Blue side.
Green Machine and
Black Stars split games
RINGETTE HQUSE LEAGUE
On February 18 the ringette house league
Black Stars downed the Green Machines 7-6.
The Black Stars had no one to play goal, so
coach -Stacey bean -played -the -first riod--
for the Black Stars and the second for Green
Machine.
The Green Machine did all their scoring in
the first period with Alesha Glousher scor-
ing two goals and Leslie Brereton, Stacey
Clarence, Cathy Jo Moore and Jennifer
Hamilton each scoring one goal.
Assists went to Alesha Glousher, two;
Leslie Brereton and Cathy Jo Moore, Stacey
Clarence, Heather Moss and Tanya Ross,
one. each. The..Black Stars' Tara- Haylowhad-
two goals and Melissa Purser had two
assists.
In the second period,. Green Machine
could not get the ring past Heather
McDonald but the Black Stars counted five
goals. Tara Haylow got her third and fourth
goals, both .from Melissa Purser. Julie
Campbell had two goals from Donna Water-
_fileid: Donna-Waterffield-had one-'goalother--
assists went to Karen Harrison.
Sunday, February 24, the Green Machine
downed the Black Stars 8-5. The goals.. for
Green Machine were scored by Alesha
Glousher, three, Leslie Brereton, two;
Cathy Jo Moore two and Stacey Clarence,
one.
The assists went to Leslie Brereton,
three; Stacey Clarence, two; and Heather
„Moss, one.
The -Black Stars had two by Donna Water -
field, two by Julie Campbell and one by
Melissa Purser. Assists going to Tonya Sed-
don with one. The Black Stars received good
goaltending from Karen Harrison.
Pee----W'rot'rie home
tournament runner-up
The Goderich Lions Pee Wees played in
the:-Mitchej Winter Snorts _Hockey tourney
and came home runner-up in the "A" 'divi-
sion last weekend. The Lions defeated
Fergus 4-2 and New Hamburg 3-2 before los-

In the final against Petrolia, a goal mouth
scramble to �ihe _lvinriing goal._ for
Petrolia in the last minute of play for their
win. Trailing 2-0 entering the third period

Against Fergus, the Lions fell behind 2-1
early in the contest, but rebounded for three
—straight-.goals Chris_Q'.Neill,_Brian-_Laney
Tim Harrison and Andre Cauchi scored the
goals for Goderich; with assists going to
Lane,Harrison, Cauchi, Shawn Talbot, Jeff
Hodges and Jason Pearson.
In their second game the Lions took a 2-0
lead and then held on for the victory. Brian
Lane with two and Andre Cauchi with one
were the goal scorers in this contest, with
Tim Harrison with two assists as did
Cauchi.

Goderich goalies Pat Donnelly and Bob
Lumley had very good games in the
tourney.-.
A few Lions won prizes at this tourney.
They were Doug Rivers, a week of hockey
school at Huronia Hockey Camp this sum-
mer; Brian Lane, a dinner at the local
restaurant. Jeremy Grasby a puck and Pat
Donnelly a hat.
Lions next outing will be this Sunday in St.
Marys for the Shamrock tourney with the
first game against Dorchester.

The St. Helen's Snowmobile Club held
another very successful poker rally Sunday,
February 3rd. Four hundred and five hands
were sold. Ideal weather conditions prevail-
ed except some• thought that the air was
slightly nippy over the 25 mile course.
Check points were held at Earl Jamiesons
manned by.Fred Ward; township hall (used
as the clubhouse) by Angus MacDonald and
Jeff Alton's ( Wiggins house) looked after by
Gord Powell.
WSinners of the poker hands were first,
Duane Rivett $4(1 who had five nines, a
record for St. Helen's Club to have a winner
with five of a kind; second Gord Chapman
successful rally
