Retail Store in Goderich got the word to
lock the doors at 6 a.m. Tuesday when
talks bogged down between the Interna-
tional Brewery Workers of America and
three Canadian breweries.

When threats of a lockout were made by
the breweries last Friday, sales doubled at
the outlet in Goderich.
"I had people buying beer I hadn't seen
since Christmas. One more day and we
would have run out of beer," says Mr.
Osborn.
A bargaining session which lasted all
weekend and into Monday evening in

The union fears that 2500 workers could
be laid off if the breweries shift from bot -

Wages are secondary. The workers now
earn an average of $14.85 per hour.
Until the contract dispute is settled, Mr.
Osborn will continue to work behind locked
doors.
"I don't know how long I'll be staying
here but I've got to be here because they
could settle anytime. During the lockout
I'll clean the store and get caught up on the
bookkeeping," he says.
