Keays persists
resi en says
-What one -couneillOt offd-reSideilt 'have
called a serious parking problem on Keays
Street has been turned over to the town's
works committee for consideration.
in,, a letter to council, Kenneth
Burkholder of Keays Street told council
that traffic problems, which have plagued
the area for years, have not subsided.
Narrower streets because of snow coupl-
ed with high school students parking in the
area have created problems for
Burkholder. At times, he suggested; it was
almost impossible to get out of his
driveway. He told council he recently
burnped into a parked car trying to lack
out of his driveway.
Deputy -reeve John Doherty agreed with
Burkholder's assessment claiming park-
ing on Kenya Street near the high school
has been a source of problems.
"It's been a bone of contention for five,
six or seven years and it's ridiculous," he
argued. "I've checked the situation
several times. The high school students
drive up ,and down the street and park
there. Something has to be done."
Mayor Eileen Palmer asked Chief Pat
King t survey the situation, including a
summary of available parking spots at the
high school and in the immediate vicinity.
She said that more parking space may
have to be made available to stud -*Its or
the parking bylaw will haveto be enforce.?
-More rigidly.
Councillor Jim Searles agreed and the
bylaw officer. should enforce the bylaw.
The works committee will examine the
problem and report back to council in Mar-
ch.
