The : first, last Thursday, was a rescheduled league game, with the score a whopping 9-1. Goderich's -lone tally came' from Ian MacKinnon, on an end to end rush. He was assisted by Ron Chapman. In this game, Goderich played quite poorly. On faturday, the first game of a best -of - five playoff series was played. The strong Strathrov team hammered Goderich 11-3. Goderich was prepared to play hockey. They had the desire, but hopes were quickly dashed, when the Strathroy team scored three times in the first five minutes. The Midgets would not give un however and powered. y Mark Burbine . they launched their comeback. Burbine scored his first on a powerful shot outside the blueline, at 7:33. He was assisted by .Ian MacKilmon: His Second goal was another povverful shot at 9:13. Assists went to Rod Nurse and Jim Beattie. Strathroy quelled Goderich' come back by scoring four goals to end the first period. Goderich opened the second period with a goal, from Shawn Larder, who picked off a pass as he was leaving the penalty box; but that was the last murmur from Goderich. Strathroy scored three goals to finish the second period and added one more in the third. Goderich will play their next scheduled game in Strathroy on February 12. Midget B's win playoff Goderich Midget B's defeated Kincardine in the first round of WOAA playoffs. After losing the first game in Kincardine 4 - 0, Goderich wrapped up the series by defeating Kincardine 9 - 4 and 8 - 5. On Wednesday, in Goderich they started the game on a high note, as Dave Duncan scored four goals, Darrell Durnin, three goals, Paul Jeanotte and Brent Fowler with one each.,Receiving assists were Fowler, with fourDuncan, two, Chris Breckles, Durnin, Tim Wilson, and Steve Armstrong, each with one. Then on Thursday, in . Kincardine, --G er"felf.dgUilI di tted"tfie scoring & ave .. Duncan and Darrell Durnin both scored hat tricks with Tim Wilson: and Brent Fowler each getting one. Durnin . started the scoring only three minutes into the game, as Fowler,. and 13rad Black picked up the assists. At the 7:13 mark Duncan ripped one in, assists' going to Durnin and-Fowler-Kinear! • dine's Darren Mowry scored at the 12 - minute mark to end the first period 2 -1 for Goderich. Only three minutes into the second period, Durnin scoffed his second goal, on a pass from Duncan. Tim Wilson then repeated as he let a shot go beating Kincardine's goalie hands down. Kincardine never gave up as they scored two quick goals, only minutes apart, to br- ing the game a bit closer. With Goderich only winning by one, Dar- rell Durnin completed his scoring on a fine play, set up by Brent Fowler and Bruce Culbert. Then only 35 seconds into the third period; .-Kincardine's- defeneeman-._ A.J:".. Gouthro skated from one end to the other, sliding one by goaltender Jeff Scott. Goderich dominated, by scoring the next two, on goals by Brent Fowler and Dave Duncan. Receiving the assist were Durnin, Culbert, Kelly and Jeanotte. Kincardine tried to catch up as Dan Carter.scored;. tint only minutes later Dave Duneanscored his third, with 29 seconds re- maining in the game, Goderich winning 8 - 5. Pee Wees drop first game Goderich Lions Pee Wees saw a :lot _ of hockey action last week, against some good opposition. Last Thursday, in Strathroy, they dropped a 5-4 overtime game to go down one game in the best -of -three series. The second game Is scheduled for Thursday at 7 p.m. and the third game in Strathroy Sunday. In this game, the Lions gave up leads of 3- 1 and 4-3 to end up losing. Missed scoring chances proved to be their downfall as they tried frantically to sew un the came. Tim Harrison, with two goals, Shawn Talbot and Brian Lane were the Lion goal scorers, while Chris O'Neill, Kevin Moss, Jason Parson and Paul Hamilton earned assists. If the Lions play with the same en- thusiasm in the second game, a third game is a strong possibility. On the weekend, the team participated in the Can -Am tournament, held annually in London. This year the Lions were pitted against Simcoe A team and the second Ma- jor teams from Richmond Hill and Humber Valley. .. Against Siincoe, the-Iocals held them to a 3-2 score after two periods, before the op- position depth took over and went on to gain a 7-2 win. Chris O'Neill and Brian Lane tallied for Goderich, with both O'Neill and Lane adding assists, along with Tim Har- rison. In the second game, the Lions stunned Richmond Hill 10-2, as Lane and Harrison each notched four goals, while singles went to Jeff Hodges and Shawn Talbot. Assists in the game went to Lane, with two; O'Neill and Andre Cauchi, three each and singles to Hodges, Sean O'Brien, Lonnie Rumig and Jean Paul Cauchi. In the Sunday morning contest, Humber Valley upset the Lions 6-1, as Harrison tallied the lone Lion goal, from O'Neill and Lane. A win in this game would have put the Lions in the final. This Thursday, the Lions take on Strathroy in the second game, of the OMBA playoffs. Belles finish ringette season in second place Led by the shutout goaltending of Sheila Donnelly, the Goderich Belles finished their ringette season on a winning note, finishing ln-third..plar-e in their division The Belles overwhelmed the visiting Brussels team, 12-0, in an exhibition game on February 3. The Brussels squad is an old Goderich rival. They play WOAA ringette, while Goderich plays in the Huron -Perth division. Brussels may join the Huron -Perth league next season. Allison Graham led the Goderich scorers, with five goals and one assist. Stacey Rean netted two goals, Lisa Kisch scored two and assisted on two, Angie Chisholm scored one and assisted on five, as did Vicky Vander - burgh and Debi O'Brien added a goal and an assist. Deb Habel counted two assists and Lori McCartney earned one. The Belles travel to St. Thomas March 29, 30 and 31, to compete for the Ontario Regional C Division title. Goderich finihed third in this competition last year, an' ex- cellent showing for a smaller organization. Goderich starts their playoffs in the Huron -Perth division next weekend, Sunday against Seaforth, at 7:30. TWEENS WIN 10-7 The Goderich Tweens finished second in the Huron -Perth ringette division and are now gearing up.for the playoffs, which start next Sunday, at 6:30 in Goderich. The Tweens outlasted Seaforth in a home game on February 3, corning out on the win- ning end of a 10-7 score. The Goderich defence each got a chance to play forward in this game, due to an in- jury to Angie Harrison. Shelly Alcock and Laurie Dawson both scored goals. Trisha Riiiiii score�fc. a 7—tat trick, plus one, for four goals. Karen Arm- strong scored a pair of markers, plus one assist, Annett Jones scored once and Kelly Lumley earned two assists. Excellent play from the Goderich defenders and the hot goaltending of Tonya Glousher made for a good game. The Tweens will play in the Ontario Regionals on March 29, 30 and 31, in St. Thomas. Huron Park opened the scoring two minutes .into play but Julie Campbell tied it up two minutes later, with an assist going to Stacey Clarence and then at the 13:30 mark Tara Haylow got the go-ahead goal, but 70 seconds later Huron Park tied it up. Julie Campbell again came to the rescue and scored an unassisted goal, but at 19:40 Huron Park tied up the game: In the second period, Tara Haylow got an unassisted goal but then Huron Park came . back and tied the game up, -then a minute later which gave her a hat- trick, Tara Haylow got a goal, assisted by Stacey Clarence. Huron Park, again tied up the game at the 10:00 minute mark. Stacey Clarence got another go 'ahead goal unassisted but at the 18:30 mark, Huron Park tied up the game. Heather MacDonald played.a super game in net and it was thanks to her and especially exceptional defense from Tanya Ross that helped us end up with a tied game. 16 ' ons 10 x 14 cm.
