parent.

Ontario kinstnen provided the initial
funds to establish the Kinsmen -CF

Children in Toronto. The Kinsmen offer a
memorial scholarship and competitive
fellowship awards were established in
1970. A two-year respiratory fellowship
was established at the Hospital for Sick

are encouraged.

extensive, in olving daily therapy,

The disease challenges not only the
individual but the family involved and
calls for great resolve and an indomitable
spirit.
Fortunately, with the generous help of
Kinsmen and Kinette Clubs, victims of CF
can lead an easier and perhaps, more
normal style of life. But, the dedication to
the cause must still be in the forefront and
by participating in the Goderich club's
annual ski and walk-a-thon Sunday,
February 10 you will be supporting the
work of research and medical teams who
battle the disease.
Registration for the ski and walk-a-thon
will be at Suncoast Mall from 1 to 3 p.m.
Sunday and anyone not .participating but
wishing to make a donation, may do so
during that time.
Pledge sheets fpr the event are available
from Zehrs, Suncoast Mall, Garb and
Gear, Shanahan's Foodland, Kirkeys,
Becker's and local elementary schools.

getters and the Kinette food booth will be
on site with free refreshments for
participants.
Cross country -ski enthusiasts will follow
the trail through the bush behind the mall
while walkers will be given a route through
the streets of thetown.
If you are unable to participate, support
a walker or skier and help thousands of
children who suffer from cystic fibrosis

More than $50,000 needed for
council pay and expenses in 1984
A report on the 1984 cost of council pay
and expenses indicated that municipal
government cost the town of Goderich over
$50,000.
Town administrator Larry McCabe
prepared the summary for presentation to
council at its last meeting of January.
The summary indicates that councillor's
Pay amounted to $45,000 in 1984 while ex-
penses for conferences and seminars add-
ed another $5,127 to the total. Of the
remuneration total, Mayor Eileen Palmer
earned $9,998 including $935 as chairman
of the town's police commission and had
- over -4,608 in expenses.- • • - •
The remaining members of council
• averaged annual salaries of $4,300 for
council and committee Work while ex-
penses for attendance at conference and
seminars varied: The expenses incldued•
Harry Worsell, $538; John Doherty, $1.146;
Don Wheeler, $952; Jim Searls, $363; Jirn
Britnell, $695 and Bob Cornish, $224. Coun-
cillors Glen Carey and Bill Clifford did not
attend any conferences or seminars.
Expenses for the town's top ad- •
ministrative staff amounted to almost•
$5,000 combined. Administrator Larry Mc-
Cabe was credited with $2,958 in expenses
and commissioner of works, Ken Hunter,
$2,032. Over $900 from that total related to
expenses incurred on harbour related
business.•
The town's recreation einployeeS logged' -

expenses.
Will pursue more BILD
funds for work at airport
The airport committee will recommend
that town council apply for Board of In-
dustrial Leadership and -Development
MILD) funds for 1985.... ... • _ _
At its last regular meeting, committee
members endorsed a motion calling for the
town to apply for funds under the program
to continue with improvements to the
municipal airport.
The committee has utilized funds in the
past to pursue its master plan for the
facility and is recommending that the ex-
isting apron be extended td gravel grade at
a cost of $25,000; that lot 8 be purchased
from Business Air Services at $40,000; that
Construction of a turning button on runway
10-28 be pursued at a cost of $15,000 and
$5,000 for the purchase of the Morissey pro-
perty.
The committee learned that the 40 year-
old engine in the snowblower blew a valve
and piston and replacement parts are
almost non-existant because .the company
is out of business and that type of engine
has not been in production for over 30
years.
A snowblower has been rented for the
balance of the winter season but a decision
has not been made on whether to repair the
existing machinery: Committee secretary
Ken Hunter -guggested that, • since a
snowblower will not be required until the
winter of 1985-86, the committee budget to
reserve for the repairs or the purchase of a '
new piece of machinery.
