When things are going bad there seems to be no end to the trouble.
While more than 50 snowmobilers had little trouble with their
machines during the Benmiller Foresters' Annual Snowmobile
Marathon Sunday, this participant had to do some maintenance
work before his machine was ready for the trail ,. More than $5,,000
was raised in the one -day event, half of which will to cancer

Line-up shake-up helps teams get wins
BY DRB
After the three Teacher team losses of the
previous week, two of theteams decided to
shift the lineup a bit, to see if they could
come up with a better combination.
For both GDCI teams, the re -alignment
worked, as they won their games last week,
to maintain their first -place tie with Garb
and Gear.
Bill Garrow took over as skip for the
Teacher No. 2 team, and they defeated Jeff
Harrison's Super Shell team in a close 6 to 5
contest.
George Sutton, who had been playing Vice
on the Teacher No. 1 team, moved up to skip
and the cornbLnation allowed them to take
an easy 10 - 3 win over Charlie Crawford's
Silver Brooms.
:However, _ FIOyd Harman didn't think a
change was necessary. His strategy, much
like the present Maple Leafs, didn't work,
and he went down to his second defeat in a
row. An 11-1 drubbing by the Maitland Lady
Sports.
Jim Bell's Garb and -Gear team were
having a tough time with- Mark Fisher's
Sifto Salt team, and they were tied 3 - 3 after
six ends. However Jim and his team of
Shopper's Square businessmen scored a big.
six -ender in the seventh to come away with a
10 - 3 win, and a share of first place in the
Industrial Curling League.
The Health Unit team, with Jack
MacKinnon healthy once again had little
difficulty in defeating Betty. Moore and her
Lady Foresters 8 - 4.
Cam Bogie's Men's Forester's team didn't
have it quite so easy this week as they cattle '
Chess players battle.
storm to' set up boards
BY BARRY PAGE
Ten stalwart players braved the winter
weather and set up their chess boards for
another interesting "battle of wits".
The most protracted game was 'between
Bob Dick and Walter Gottschalk. After
what seemed to be a marathon number of
-moves, Walter finally got the upper hold to
secure the victory. George Barwick
overthrew Doug Brindley in a similar
fashion, this time following a lengthy end
game which saw the full force of castles in
action.
Once again Dennis Luiting played the
greatest number of games, winning two
out of five. Barry Page found himself on a
roll, but ground to a halt on the third game
and had to seal his move. Mark Maurer
had a good evening with two wins and
gamed ground in the Honorary Members
level. Robert Nau completed his fifty-third
game of the season. His closest rival for
the most number of games played is John
Crawford's 39.

up against a determined GDCI Viking team.
Dan Durst with fellow worker Phil Main Jr.
and students Mark Jeffrey and Mike Collins
put up a goad fight, but in the end were
defeated by the more experienced Forester
team by a 6 - 3 score. This keeps the
Forester team in the running, only two
games out of first place. -
Cathy Hamilton looked like she was going
to hold her V & G team together as they had
the Sifto Salt Maniacs tied at one, after two
ends, but things fell apart, and the Miners
hammered away like they do at the salt and
built up an 11-1 score before it was over.
Gerry Riley skipped the Union team on
Thursday night, and came up strong against
the Doctor's team from the hospital. Local
1863 won that one by a 7 - 4 score.
