The old' school - section No. 6, Union
community is sponsoring this box social
revival. Ladies are asked to bring an
attractively decorated box lunch for two.
They are to put their parries inside and
perhaps tell the man �f their.cneiceyvbat the
box looks like -that is If they want to eat with
him. The lunches will be.auctioned off to the
gentleman with the highest bid.
The organizers have kept the name of the
auctioneer a secret to this date but he or she

The congregation of Knox Presbyterian Church held a Robbie Burns dinner at the church
Friday as part of the Sesquicentennial celebrations. Piper Bert McCreath led the procession
into the church and was followed by Edward Smythe and the porter of the haggis, Barbara

A 'Family Box Social' will be held to
celebrate the Goderich Township
Sesquicentennial on Friday, February 15 at
7:30 p.m.• in the Goderich Township
Community Centre in Holmesville.
Going out to buy a meal is commonplace
in the 1980's. Decades earlier it was rare and
so it was a treat when a social gathering
provided the 'incentive. Not only did the
gentlemen buy the meal for themselvesand
their partners but the female portion of this
partnership, had to provide the meal in a
decorated ba. No wonder they did not eat
out often when you made the meal and
bought it back again!
The creator of the Box Social used this
method to raise money for churches and
" clubs. This event tacilitated a way for single
gentlemen and ladies to meet. The
gentlemen would bid on the lunches and get

The three federal candidates for Huron -
Bruce in the February 18 election faced
about 350 voters Monday night at an all -
candidates meeting in Lucknow. The three
candidates are Tony' McQuail, NDP;
Murray Cardiff, PC and Graeme Craig,
Liberal.
The board of governors of the Alexandra
Marine and General Hospital, were
somewhat relieved in learning that their
1980-81 operating budget allocation from the
Ministry of Health was, increased by 8.5 per
cent over the previous year:

Goderich was reflected this week with the
announcement that a large Ontario lumber
and building supplies firm is to locate here.

Mr. JaCk Winnocur, of London, England,
who is a staff dorrespondant in the United
States for the Daily Sketch of London, was a
visitor in Goderich on Wednesday. 1 His
purpose was to round up a story and ptctures
in connection with Steven Truscott.
The Lions Club's County Council night will

local public school board.
The new warden of Huron County was
Alex Alexander, youngest member of
county council and one of the youngest ever
to occupy the warden's chair. He was reeve
of Grey -Township.
•A precedent -was -established - When .Mrs.
Eunice Fay Sheardown, formerly a member
of the Canadian Women's Army Corp., was
accepted as a member of Legion Branch 109.
She was the first woman member of the
local branch.
Norman W. Miller was appointed to the
position of Huron County Clerk. He has been
acting in that capacity since the departure
_ofJ. M. Roberts.

Seniors view slides of
trip band to Scotland
HOLMESVILLE - Worship Service was
held in Hohnesville United Sunday morning
and featured the.Junior Choir. Mr. Moffat of
Brumfield Church officiated.
On February 10, the church service at
Hohnesville United .will be at 1 p.m.,
followed by the annual meeting. Coffee will
be served. •
Card Party
The Goderich Township WI held card
patty on January 28. Winners were: ladies'
high, Evelyn McNeil; ladies low, Elva Cox;
men's high, Don Harris; men's low, Gerald
Orr; lone hands, Frank Thompson. The next
card party will be February 14 at 8 p.m. in
the Community Centre.
Seniors meet
The Enterprising Seniors met in the
community centre on January 17 with John

gave the treasurer's report Alice Porter
took the , roll call and read the
correspondence. Thank you cards were read
from Charlotte Norman, Mr. Avery and
Clarence and Jean Perdue.

A discussion was held regarding a tour of
a sugar bush. John Semple and Ray Cox to
check it out.
Hazel McCreath spoke on the quilts to be
done, also the souvenir spoons. Hazel to
order more spoons.
A motion was made to pay the Star •
membet bhip and the rent for the hall.
Hazel and Bert McCreath were called up

took with the Clinton Band rind the Massed
Pipe Band, Bert being a piper in the Clinton
Legion band.
The Enterprising Seniors will meet main
February 7 at 2 p.m. in the Community •
Centre in Holmesville
will certainly need skill dealing with a group
hungry fellows.

Girls are to bring a bag hutch to Shure with
the boys. This food will be spread out on
tables and all the children can serve
themselves. Refreshments will be provided
for children and adults,
