The Stratford scoping was well -spread,
with only one shooter, Don Barnes, hitting
double figures, at 10 points.
In Friday's game, the Viidn s and
Redmen battled on even terms in the first
quarter. •
The game was tied 12-12 going into the
second quarter, but the Vikings then
outscored the Redmen 1372, to' hold a 24-14
lead at halftime.
The Vikings dominated the second half,
holding Norwell to seven points -a -quarter
while scoring 17 and 20 themselves.
Steve Bugler, with 16 points and Gerry
Kingsley, with 13 topped the. Viking of-
fence. Keven Telford had 10, Shawn
Larder added eight, Andrew MacAdam hit
for six and Scott Garrow had five points,
Scott Baer had two and Byron Bowrnan
had ene point.
The Vikings, who are now 4-1, in the won -
lost column, play their next game at home,
to St. Marys,

Vike's-rebound

The GDCI Midget Vikings played two
home games in Huron -Perth Conference
basketball competition last week, losing 68
29 to the Stratford Central Rams on Wednes-
day and rebounding for a 50 - 37 victory over
the Norwell Redmen Friday.
The Vikings were unable to match the
skills of the Stratford Central team. The
Rams led 19 - 7 after one quarter, 36 -12 at
halftime and 59 -16 after three quarters.
Mike Bush and Kevin Haasnoot each had
eight points for the Vikings. Sean Wilson,
with ' four and Tom Donnelly, Jim
Laithwaite and Kevin Black had two points
apiece.
The Vikings found they, could. play. _their.,
game much better against Norwell. The
Vikes held a slim 17 - 16 lead after one
quarter, led° 27 - 24 at halftime and held a
slim 33 - 32 lead going into the final quarter
when they outscored the opposition 17 - 5.
Mike '.:uah again led ";.."s team with 13
points. Sean Wilson and Jim Laithwaite
each had 10 points and Kevin Haasnoot add-
ed nine. Derek Chandler, with six, and Tiro
Bugler, with t sr points rounded out the Vik-,
ing attack. -

St. Jerome's wins tourney

Kitchener St. Jerome's won the annual
Blueand White Junior Basketball Tourna-
ment here Saturday,, defeating Sarnia St.
Pat's 44 - 43 in the final. Parkhill North
Middlesex won the consolation title, winn-
ing'59 - 31 over Cambridge Southwood.
St. Jerome's reached the finals by
defeating North Middlesex 58 - 52 in the
first round and getting by Sarnia Northern
67 -- 58' in the semi-finals. St. Pat's ham-
mered Southwood 64 - 21 in their first round
game and beat St. Thomas Central Elgin
55 - 45 in the other carni -final.
The host,GDCI Vikings found the going
tough, losing their two games, 55 - 34 to
Duplicate
Bridge Club.
Test day held at A seven -table Mitchell game, with a

In the North-South division, Da a
Sproule and Mary Ann Dempsey came in
first, with 105, points; second, Frank
Laverty and Mary Phillips, 98 points;
third, Jane and Brian Cere, 92.5; fourth
Eleanor Erskine and Mary Donnelly, 91.5.
First in the East-West division, Marg
Hail,. and John Wood, 98; second, Joanne
Gilchri ' ,rand Lee Ryan, 89.5; third, Bill
Duncan and P.K. Venkiteswaran 88.5;
fourth, Roseanne and Graham Yates, 85.5.
On Thursday afternoon, January "10, the
club had a five -table Howell gamein play.
First, betty and Ray Fisher, 29.5; se-
cond, Marg Hall and Mary Donnelly, 28;
tied for third was Louise Heatherington
and Jean Papernick and Ralph Kingswell
The Goderich Figure Skating Club held a
'test day on January 6, at the Goderich
arena.
A total of 20 tests. were tried, with skaters
from Clinton, Mitchell and Stratford par-
ticipating,
articipating, as well as the Goderich club.
Successfully - passing their tests, from
Goderich, were: Teresa Ferguson,
Preliminary free skate; Danette Horton,
Dutch Waltz, Preliminary dance; Melissa
Htuden, Fox Trot, Senior Bronze dance;
Sonya McCallum, second figures.
Judges for these tests were from
Wingham, Hamilton and Glencoe.
In the next few months, some of the
skaters from Goderich will be participating
in test days fn Brussels and Clinton.

Tzioumis goal lifts local
Bantam B 's to 5-4 win
A see -saw battle between Goderich and
Wingham on Jan. 11 finally • ended with
„ Goderich on the higher side of the 5 - 4 score.
John Tzioumis, assisted by Gregg .de
Winter and Jimmy Kelly, scored the winner
with just 35 seconds left in the game, and
sent his teammates and the fans into a fren-,
zy.
There were no goals scored in the first
. period. ,
In the second period, Goderich and
Wingham each scored once. Goderich's goal
opened the scoring when Dan Itnanse,
assisted by Brad Fisher and Mike Rompf,
sent a hard shot past Wingham goalie, Chris
Fryfogle.
In the third period Wingham broke the tie
at the 3:18 mark.
However, at 4:44 another goal from Im-
lanse, again assisted by Fisher and Rompf,
tied the game.
Singh- again uk the tie but Goderc�;
fought back and at the 8:42 ark Doug
Kellough scored, assisted by Jinimy Kelly.
With the score tied 3 - 3 and the game in its
Sarnia Northern and 54 - '41 to North Mid-
dlesex. Against Sarnia, the Vikings were
led by Steve Bugler, with 14 points and
Gerry Kingsley with 10. In their second
game, the Vikings got 18 points from Kevin
Telford. '
The only other Huron -Perth Conference
team in the tournament, Stratford Nor-
thwestern, . lost both games, 55 - 43 to St.
. Thomas and .58. - 55 to Cambridge
Southwood. •
