Action resumed this week in the Goderich
Recreational Hockey League after a short-
Christmas
hornChristmas layoff.
Recent games saw Bedford Flyers potind
FRnies Rangers 104" 4, Green Machine and
rnies tie 6 - 6 and Hodges and Clere-Vu tie 5
-5.
Brian Moody scored five goals and added
two assists, to lead the Bedford rout. Mark
Frayne scored twice and had an assist and
Brian Good, Rick Rawson and Jerry Rozen-
dal each scored a goal and assisted on one.
Len Kolkman, Greg Beacom and Jim
Hayter had two points each in &losing effort
by Ernie$.
Terry Shoemaker, of Ernies, notched a ,
hat -trick and added an assist as Ernies find
Green Machine played to a 6 - 6 tie. Bill
Lewis and Bruce Melick replied with, two
goals each for Murphy's.
The scoring was spread around Sunday _
morning, as Hodges and,.Clere-Vu tied 5 - 5.
Scott Parks with .two goals, Ed Chilton,
Doug Smith and Ken Meriam,counted for
Hodges.
Peter Thompson, Brian Reed, Greg
Burns, Paul Robinson and Don McDonald
each replied with a goal for Clere-Vu.

The Goderich Legion Branch 109 curling
team topped 14 entries to win the District C
championship and advance to the provincial
playoffs in February.
Fourteen branches were represented at
the distrtict---bonspiel in _ Elora on the
weekend and Goderich emerged the top
rink winning all four games in the t
•bonspiel. .
The team of skip, Jim Bell, vice -skip,
Jack Kellough, second, John Orr and lead
Jeff Harrison doubled a Guelph entry 10-5 in
thechampionship final to earn a berth in the
Legion Provincial Playoffs in Trenton
February 7-9. •
The Goderich rink opened opened the
bonspiel with a 6-4 victory over Chesley and
stayed alive 'in the hunt for the district
championship with a 7-5 win over Guelph in
its second game Saturday. In semi-final ac-
° tion, Goderich ripped Cambridge (Galt) 10-5
to advance .to the, championship round
against another Guelph rink.

The Flying Doctor, the Golden American Sxddlebred stallion, owned by Dianne Foster of
RR 6, Goderich, was, recently named 1984 American Saddle Horse Association of Ontario
Open Parade Horse Champion and 1984 Overall High Point Golden Saddle Horse of Ontario.
A silver tray, trophy and championship ribbon were awarded, at the association's banquet,
held in Kitchener recently. "The Doctor" competed in 10 shows across Ontario to claim
these titles.

1985 started out as a good year for the
Goderich Chess Club since moving to its new
meeting place, at the Recreation Board
room, in the grandstand.
Out of the seventeen games played,
Robert Nau, Dennis Luiting, Brian rindley
and Barry Page picked up three wins
apiece. Dennis played the highest number of
games, which was five.
Two classic games were on tap. Both Bob
Dick and Doug Brindley were in great form
and evenly -matched. Bob took the game,
but it wasn't easy. It was against the clock Level 3
for Louis Stadelmann and Brian Phillips Owen Moriarty
and'for once, Louis didn't have things all his Gerry Ross

It was good to see Richard Bennett out Barry Page
