It appears elsewhere cele brat: the Int rilaitional Year of the,,; in the Bible. Early Christians thought it Child. Among the Rights of the Child which; significant that the name, referring to were given sortie publicity at the time, in -'i;, salvation and recalling the Joshua who led eluding free education, adequate nutrition,0 Israel across the Jordan into the Promised protection against cruelty, neglect, and ex- Land, should be the Name of Him who was ploitation, the right to affection, love andf; to lead the Children of God into . His understanding, was this - the first on the list,t. Kingdom. , the right to a name and nationality.? A Everyone needs an identity expressed in thea. Christ is not the surname of Jesus, of name or names by which he or she is called. : course, but describes Him as the Messiah or Anointed One': According to our manner of dev loping family names, His could be Davi o , or perhaps even Carpenter, or less like y, Nazarene. He was called all of these at one time or another - that is, He was New Year's Day is celebrated also as the ''Name Day of Jesus. Not an unusual name in itself, it is Joshua in Hebrew, Jeshua in Aramaic and later Hebrew, Jesous in prtailt New Year's service marks Knox 1 Knox Presbyterian Church, Goderich, entered its 150th year of Presbyterianism in Goderich, with a Watchnight Service on New Year's Eve at 11:30; . - The Minister, The Rev. G.L. Royal, spoke on "The Year,, Of Jubilee". On New Year's Day from 2 to 4:30 a Levee was held in the classroom area. Mulled Cider, Scottish Shortbread and Christn as Cake were serv- ed to over 200 people. Conveners of the Huronview HU ;,ONVIEW - The tinsel, baubles, snowmen and Mr. and Mrs. Santa Claus have been cleared away for yet another year as Christmas, beautiful as, it was,.. is now a memory. On the last afternoon of December, Huronview residents gathered in the auditorium for their New Year's party. While everyone enjoyed the food and refreshments, relaxing music in the background was played from the new stereo. Most everybody has heard the song "Wasn't that a party"? Well everyone at Huronview had fun too, and thanks -goes to Levee were Lyn and Don I c1w.ara, assisted by Nell and Bruce Erskine, Emily Crew and, Beth McLean. The, Meznorbi.lia Tables covering the 150 -year history of -the congregation collected - by Bill 4.Ross were much enjoyed by the ecumenical gathering. A highlight of the afternoon was the presentation- of, a generous cheque by the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 109; Goderich, by John Mac- residents the staff for organizing the super afternoon. Gladys Van Egmond, her daughter Susan, Art Finlayson, Ray Cantelon and Elgin Nott, with Huronview's own Jimmie Rud- dock, presented an excellent program of lively old favourite tunes and some popular ones too. Susan Van Egmond, a delightful young musician, was very generous with her outstanding solos on the saxophone, just one of two or three instruments she pia ,I beautifully: Susan was accompanied at thy; piano for some of her numbers by he mother Gladys, who also is a talented musi- cian. While -coffee was being seried, Gladys UANUAIFIY,111 i • ./ • ;w1i11111111111111 MAIN CORNER CLINTON 482-9732 Balled by His lineage, His family occupa- tion, His plaee of residence. Then, too, He is often called Lord, otr Master which loosely translates into Sir or MAW. It van aaaeiw one who has power aver -othersfnr one -to 'whom ° respect -is sue, . In - both cases it is justified. We could, if we wished to carry translation of the Bible words to a modern extreme, pray through Lord Joshua David- son, or Sir" Jesous Carpenter. I am not sug- gesting it, and am " quite happy to say "through Jesus Christ our Lord". But at the time of the Name Day of Jesus, it is good for us to tl?ink, just for a moment or two, about what these familiar words mean. And think, too, about the importance of a name and an identity to all of us, not just because we have a right to it according to the United Nations, but because it expresses the individual self of each one of us, as created by God and redeemed by His Son. oft Ozeilati Selected 149f44 - da 4ea40a '2 AO catift4 cry' [✓ SUITS Yi SPORTCOATS oo , I DRESS and SPORTSHIRTS 2 0- 5 0 OFF f✓CAR COATS ✓ WINTER JACKETS ✓ SWEATERS ✓GLOVES .
