Council wi WO_ wetland guidelines • IffY STEPHANIE LEVESQUE Huron County Council will work with Ministry of Natural Resources' wetland guidelines and "see what happens", The county gave its support at the January session, but planning director Dr. Gary Davidson reassured council that it is (hot giving "wholehearted" support to the guidelines. The wetland guidelines say official plans should protect significant wetlands as well as having zoning bylaws which allow for forestry, waterfowl production,. open space and fisheries management in the wetlands. ".I agree with .what's in the guidelines, but I also believe that the farmer should be consulted and we should also work with them," said Morris Township Reeve Bill Elston: ' Reeve Elston said it would be ., to the farmer's benefit to,work with the ministry and the county on the guidelines. • Dr. Davidson ' said he intends to work with the landowners. Howick Township Reeve Jack Stafford mentioned a concern he has heard regar- ding waterfowl sanctuaries. Reeve Staf- ford has heard that crops neighboring a sanctuary have been destroyed by water- fowl. That fact has to be considered when working with these guidelines, said the Howick Reeve. Realizing it was rather late to plan a meaningful and structured list of activities to complement Local Government Week, councillor Bob Cornish -suggested that coun- cil "not rush into anything and plan something concrete."
