Huron County Council will work with
Ministry of Natural Resources' wetland
guidelines and "see what happens",
The county gave its support at the
January session, but planning director Dr.
Gary Davidson reassured council that it is
(hot giving "wholehearted" support to the
guidelines.
The wetland guidelines say official plans
should protect significant wetlands as well
as having zoning bylaws which allow for
forestry, waterfowl production,. open
space and fisheries management in the
wetlands.
".I agree with .what's in the guidelines,
but I also believe that the farmer should be
consulted and we should also work with
them," said Morris Township Reeve Bill
Elston: '
Reeve Elston said it would be ., to the
farmer's benefit to,work with the ministry
and the county on the guidelines.
• Dr. Davidson ' said he intends to work
with the landowners.
Howick Township Reeve Jack Stafford
mentioned a concern he has heard regar-
ding waterfowl sanctuaries. Reeve Staf-
ford has heard that crops neighboring a
sanctuary have been destroyed by water-
fowl. That fact has to be considered when
working with these guidelines, said the
Howick Reeve.

The town of Goderic itvill not have struc-
tuned activities during Local Government
Week, mainly because the eventful week
took everyone •by surprise. However, the
town's administrative committee will plan
some•activities fora week later in the year.
Realizing it was rather late to plan a
meaningful and structured list of activities
to complement Local Government Week,
councillor Bob Cornish -suggested that coun-
cil "not rush into anything and plan
something concrete."
The matter was l of erred to committee
and will be back before council in the form
of a recommendation at a later date.
