Grain lost
in accident
A substantial amount of grain was lost
Friday evening when a boat's bow punc-
tured a bin wall at the Goderich Elevators
Limited.
Aoeording to spokesman Ivan McConnell,
a boat called the Thorald of the Quebec and
Ontario Transportation Company, was put
in reverse causing the bow to fall down. As
the it fell, the bow struck hit the elevator
and punctured the bin wall.
The amount of grain lost is still undeter-
mined but McConnell believes it is a "fairly
substantial amount."

fers the following points to keep in mind
when deciding to drive or ride this holiday
season:
heavy meals can induce drowsiness and
slow reaction time
tobacco has physiological effects that
reduce vision skills (ie. squinting) in addi-
tion to acting as a diversion while driving
and contributing to grimy windshields
winter driving conditions such as wind,
snow, sleet, ice and reduced light place
heavy demands on the visual system
drugs, including over-the-counter ones,
often have a depressant effect, induce
drowsiness and shrink pupil size - use only
as approved by your physician and not in
combination with alcohol
alcohol, even in small amounts, impairs
the ability of the eyes to follow a smoothly
moving target by increasing the time re-
quired by the brain to process information
received and to generate the appropriate
eve movement
The following are tips suggested for safer
winter driving by Dr. Mittehnan:
wear sunglasses when necessary during
the day - never at night
keep windshield clean, inside and out.
Check your wiper blades. Keep a windshield
washer bottle filled and handy - adding de-
icer for freezing weather.
keep headlights clean and aimed properly
and car mirrors clean and adjusted proper-
