The incoming papal, Mr. Doll Tremeer
of Clinton visited Brookside Public School on
Friday, December 9 to meet the teachers and
tour the school.
Brookside is proud to have some winners
in the Legion Poster contest, namely, first
-prize. Michael Currad 315.00; second price,
Melissa Logtenberg $10.00; third prize,
Julie Pendand 15.00; also third prize, Jean
McWhinney 15.00.
The annual Christmas concert was held on
December 14 to a packed house. Numbers
included the Primary Choir,,, Kindergarten
songs and dance; Mrs. Tebbutt and Mrs.
Young's classes, Snowflakes; Mrs. Blanch-
ette's class, The Bear's Christmas; Mrs.
Graham's class, A Christmas Play; Mrs.
Cameron's lines, Christmas Tree and the
Senior Choir.
At the close of the concert grade 8 had a
surprise for Gary Jewite principal, in the
form of fluorescent letters on the curtain
spelling Thank You, Mr. Jewitt and they had
a poem to read to him. He came as principal
when this grade 8 started to Kindergarten.
Words of farewell were spoken to Mr. Jewitt
and to Lok Famish whn is retiring and both

The children went skating in Lackner/ ea
Thursday afternoon.
On Thursday afternoon after school the
staff held a farewell party for Mr. Jewitt and
Mrs. Famish. All teachers who had taught at
Brookside during Mr. Jewitt's tenure were
invited, also those who had flied in for
maternity leaves, etc. Mr. Don Cameron:was
master of ceremonies. Mary Bere read a
poem to Lois Famish and Ross Errington also
read one written by Brookside's resident
poet. Don Cameron read an address to Mr.
Jewitt and gifts were presented to both Lois
and Gary. Tony McQuail and Marian non
spoke briefly and everyone enjoyed s social
time together.
On Friday, December 16 the Student's
Council showed a film, "Now You See Haim.
Now You Don't", which was a cornu
enjoyed by all.
School resumes again on January 2. 1984.
The winter term for Volunteers is film
January 16 to March 16, a period of nine
weeks but if anyone wishes to start before
January 16, just can the school during the
first week of the New Year.
Candlelight service
held in Nile Church
For the fourth Sunday of Advent Rev.
Roberts spoke on Caspar. Melchior and
Balthazzar. their gifts and ours_ The junior
choir sang two numbers accompanied by
Melissa Logtenberg. The senior choir sang.
Ode to Joy.
On Sunday evening the C.G.i_T. girls held
a Christmas Vesper Service in the church
assisted by leaders, Lila Stewart and Penny
Hodges. It was an impressive service with
the girls taking speaking parts and singing
two anthems.
On Saturday, December 24. Christmas
Eve, there will ben 8.00 p.m_ candlelight
service of lessons. music and men's choir in
the Nile Church for both Dungannon and
Nile congregations. Because of the Christ-
mas Eve service there will be no service in
either church on Christmas Day.
On Sunday, January 1. New Year's Day
service will be at 11.00 a.m_ in Dungannon
Church for both congregations. There will be
no service at Nile that day.
The following Sunday regular services will
resume in both churches.

Alan Reed. former resident of Dungannon
and now residing m Port CoRrorne_ had the
misfortune to break his cellar bone on
November 13.
Company wide Bill. Marie, Todd and Brad
Park on Sunday were Mike and Val Bendig
and Joel and Vicki Henry. all of Goderich.
Congratulations to Jim and Debra Lawlor
of Auburn on the birth of their daughter on
December 16 at Clinton Hospital. a sister for
Andrea, a second granddaughter for Tom
and Millie Lawlor and twenty first great
grandchild for Gertie Park.

Sievert and his misfortune at this joyous
time of year. The church in Port Stanley
where he is minister was broken into the
several personal gifts to his children. as well
as a very sentimental. to say the least, stamp
collection was taken- The thieves also broke
open a metal collection boa which only
contained about 53.00- Karl is well known in
our area by many people.

Dungannon United Church on Wednesday.
December 14. Rev. Roberts pronounced the
blessing.
Following the dinner. the president, Ted
Bowers, called Evelyn Errington forward
and presented her with a past president's
jewel.
Two Australian Carols were sung by
Margaret Pritchard accompanied by Roberta
Linskill.
Beth McConnell gave a reading, Christ-
mas, which she had composed in her bo, The
Dreamer. A reading, Because the Church
was There. was read by Mary Stewart.
A pantomine. Too Many Beaus. was
presented by Margaret Errington, Jack
Smith, Eldon Culbert. Frank Pentland and
Ted Bowers.
A jovial Santa Claus dropped in and
presented each with a sweet treat.
Readings were then given by Louise
Brindley and Bertha Olson.
Roberta Linskill played some toe tapping
Christmas gunes on her accordion accom-
panied by Ed Shies Who presided "at`' -the
piano for Christmas Carets.
A wonderful time was had by all. This
concludes the activities of the seniors for
1983 but endues will resume on January 4.

The December meeting of the U.C.W. was
held in the church basement on December
12. Nora Saunders opened the meeting with
a reading entitled, Christmas Spirit Follow-
ing the singing of grace, the members and
their guests. the Willing Workers. enjoyed
coffee and a smorgasbord of desserts.
Donna Alton introduced Donna Sue
McClenaghan of Lucknow who demonstrat-
ed floral and Christmas arrangements and
the making of corsages and bows. Her
exhibition proved to be very informative and
colourful, showing how inexpensive things
many already have. can be made useful.
Karen Roberts thanked Donna Sue for her
presentation.
Donna Alton read Murray's Law and
Recipe for a Merry Christmas.
